Cloverfield......HOLY EFFIN A! [WARNING: SPOILERS INSIDE!!!]

My problem is that there this kind of oh!!! "What is it" buzz surrounding this movie and the monster in it and it just there this hold build up in anticipating it as if there'd be more of a background or mythology in it and from what I've heard... nope.

Did J.J. Abrams kick you in the balls or something? I just saw the movie again and freaked as if I had seen it for the first time. When the people are in the subway...I was like "HOLY SHIT!" and I find it just a tad bit funny, that you are blasting a movie you haven't seen yet. As far as the shaky-ness, most people know how the movie is, going into it. The first person POV makes you feel as if you are watching an actual documentary of what the people went through, and thus makes what I feel, a real emotional connection. Furthermore, the whole 9/11 thing only comes to mind to people that want to think of it that way. Everyone knows it's a monster movie. If they were to release Godzilla now instead of earlier, they would be saying the same thing in regards to 9/11.

Re: Cloverfield......HOLY EFFIN A!

Is this the first movie since 9/11 to show NYC being attacked?
Depends on how you define attacked; keep in mind that the Spiderman movies do massive damage to NY, and Collateral Damage almost had NY attacked. And of course, there was I Am Legend...

I have to wait until Tuesday to watch...MAN!

I just find it odd that every critic, every one, that I've read says there are clear, unmistakable, and unnecessary evocations of 9/11.

Its about a sea monster attacking New York.....How bout Doc Oc? He ran wild in New York, or the Green Goblin.....or that sand man....(though I prefer not to speak of spiderman 2) where were the terrorist statements then? and they were actually people causing terror.....I think that they couldnt come up with anything better to say about the movie so they used that excuse for their default. I think that the movie was great(obviously) it wasnt beautiful or cinematic...it was intense....i think most critics go for the artsy looking movies, and i personally think that J.J Abrams has made so much success that people would rather knock him down now than praise him.

All forms of media go into what i call ''OMG TERRORISTS'' mode about anything...a street light goes out and its ''OMG TERRORISTS'' its verging on ridiculous now.

They weren't comparing it to 9/11 because of the premise but because of the visual. Because certain images, visuals, and shots that Ebert called "unmistakable evocations". I can't tell you which because I've yet to see it but it's not a coincidence that they all came to the same conclusion.

As for people just wanting to knock J.J. down, these people are professional critics. They don't care. There are plenty of people they consistently praise; people who consistently turn out good product. Abrams is ridiculously overrated anyway.

No one is saying "OMG Terrorists" they're pointing out that because of recent event certain visuals have been engrained in the American minds and have certain emotions attached to them and that Abrams intentionally or not paralleled these visuals creating an innate reaction in modern times.

Geez its just a movie kids... lets not turn this into a political/911 post.
That being said, who has pics? or know where to find them? I wont see the movie till next Saturday but I can't wait to see what this moster actually looks like.

Youtube is constantly getting movie clips uploaded since yesterday

Best thing to do is go there, type in Cloverfield, & arrange the results by date.

I read the spoiler on Wiki and decieded "no." cause it seemed like godzilla: modern NYC style, and frankly i didn't/don't like godzilla esque movies

Godzilla was J.J.'s inspiration for this according to the Yahoo welcome screen

My boss's boss told me on friday after he saw the noon showing not to bother. he said it was terrible. i had planned on seeing it this weekend. he also said that at the end it's still unclear what the monster was. so i probably am not going to go see it now.

From what I've heard, I agree they should have been more clear about how the movie goes.

It doesn't have the traditional
"Here is how it was created or Here is where it came from start /Here is what it does middle /Here is how its beaten finish" format

But so far, its either you like it or don't.

A girl in my office saw it at the midnight showing this week, she loved it. I had been reading about it and we talked about it, including spoilers. She thinks the monster's a take on the Cthulhu. We both read that in blogs before the movie was out.

I thought Cthulhu was like a tentacled squid monster? From what I've heard most say its like a scaley praying mantis with red eyes

I haven't seen it yet, so I could be wrong. There's a ton saying it looks like the monster from "insert video game here" too

I just saw it.

It was entertaining.

Nothing of substance. You're just suppose to accept that the only perspective you're going to see is that of the home video camera. You're watching an event happening. That's all. There is no prologue nor epilogue.

I loved this movie -- even though I had hardcore anxiety throughout. I think my jaw stayed dropped for the entire movie after the first attack.

Anyone else think Hud was annoying? He had a few funny lines, but not everything out of his mouth has to be "funny."

You get enough of a view of the monster. You don't get any explanation for it, not really.

Yes, it evokes 9/11, but now that we all know what a building coming down with people in the street really looks like, would anything less look authentic? Would New Yorkers see something that didn't look real and feel even more uncomfortable with the comparison? I can't know the answer to that--which is worse, too real or not close enough?

The camera guy pretty much had to be obnoxious--only an obnoxious boob would continue to film during some of the moments when he should have been more helpful.

I actually needed just a little more movie. At about 75 minutes, I just wanted a little more story. Still, I thought it accomplished what it set out to do.
