I had an FBT (fecal blood test) done a couple of months ago which showed up positive, so on Monday I'm off to hospital for a colonoscopy. The Doc says not to worry as I'd had a colonoscopy done on me a little over 12 months ago which showed up clear, so it's highly unlikely that anything serious could have developed in that space of time.

Still, you can't help worrying just a little bit.

Wish me luck!

So this means you gave them your poo and they found blood in it? And now they are gonna put a camera in your bum? What are they looking for?

Good luck. I had one this past year and the worst part is the 24 hour prep, where you have to run to the bathroom every 2 minutes to evacuate. I was under for the procedure itself, so I never felt a thing. Another thing that is awful is that after midnight you can't even have water, so when you wake up the next morning you can't take a sip of water.

My results were fine, they did not find anything wrong, I hope your results are the same.

Very subtle, Lukee.

One would presume they are looking for the cause of the bleeding.

 OZ,

I won't be with you to hold your hand during the procedure.

However my positive thoughts and crossed fingers will be with

you all the way through.

I hope and trust the outcome of this one will be as assuring

and totally informative as to other possibilities.

I think the trick to this is to actually remain on the toilet and have a friend stay over to help get things you need.

Hi Oz

I am a registered nurse and of course it's wise to have the test. I am sure your doctor probably told you there are several reasons blood may have been in your stool other than something serious. It is always wise to be sure. Wishing you the very best!

The Colonoscopy will turn out fine Ozguy...You probably need to add some extra Fiber to your daily diet...Low Fiber equals constipation which could equal blood in the stool...

This time he'll probably be looking for any bacteria build up..If he finds any he'll do a biopsy..

lotsa luck, both during your procedure and the wonderful day before prepping for it.

Good luck mate! (*8*)

I've had camera's up and down almost every orifice.

The easiest one was the colonoscopy and as people have said the worst part is the fasting and evacuating!

I'm sure everything will be A OK so try not to worry too much.

Good luck Oz.
I had one a couple years ago, I was also worried about some blood,
It turned out to be an internal hemmroid.
But all in all it is stiil a good idea to have it done as you start reaching the over the hill mark.
As others have said, hopefully your Dr. has tried to ease your mind.
Just realax and find something to do the next day to try and keep your mind off it.

Good luck. I hate colonoscopies, I've had two before I even turned 18.

I've had one before. They're no big deal. However......4 days ago I got to have a cystoscopy!! For those who don't know, that's a pencil sized camera shoved up your pee hole. And no, you are not sedated. It hurt and burned like HELL!! And taking your first few pisses afterward also burns like a mofo. Thank God the doc didn't find anything wrong. Just needed some antibiotics..

Vegetarians have a reduced need for colonoscopies I believe. The meat is to blame for most colon problems.

I wasn't gonna respond to this nonsense and mess up my buddy's thread - but i can't let this go -

My friend of 30 years - and a vegetarian for 20 of them - was operated on for Colon Cancer a few months ago !! even tho you said "most" it's still a ridiculous conclusion to come to !!

OZ -- I'll hold your hand - and give you a big hug -- and prayers --

when it's over -- and you come out of the "groggy" stage -- just be sure to ask the doctor : WAS IT AS GOOD FOR YOU AS IT WAS FOR ME? -

you're the best - man !!

um... how exactly do you give them a sample? Do they just fish it out of the toilet or do you do it into a bucket?

That makes sense. I hope it goes well for you.

If they take pictures or record it i would love to see it. I love weird stuff like that!
