Comics!

^ my thoughts exactly. didnt pixie and magik teleport the entire population of atlantis halfway across the globe like it was no big deal? not countig rogue (and possibly hope and legion) who could be used as additional teleporters.

to be fair, if you start thinking like that, it invalidates almost every superhero story.

So I got this week's comics Uncanny improved slightly but only. Still reminded me of a Fraction issue. Daken and X-Factor rocked as usual excellent writing and storytelling. Generation Hope had a very good twist let's just say out of all the new takes on powers I think Primal's is the best also a nice twist at the end. I'm not sure though how long it can keep me gripped though.

Liking that IA are looking into Sara in Witchblade. I just wish I can get the back issues of the Artifacts I've missed.

Oh FFS we are getting Wolverine and the X-Men issue 1 in October and Uncanny in November.

Really Marvel! Don't get me wrong I like Jason Aaron writing Wolverine but seriously I can understand why they chose him to split against Cyclopse but this means he's in the following books.

X-Men
Wolverine and the X-Men
Uncanny X-Force
Wolverine
Wolverine The Best There is (If it survives)
Astonishing ( again if it survives they are going to issue something on it).
Avengers
New Avengers
Moon Knight ( I know its Moon Knight's personality disorder but still).
Probably guest spots in Daken and X-23

Seriously want to smack the Marvel Arcitects lets just have a Marvel New U with Spiderman, Wolverine and a few others that are being milked to death. Sorry end of rant.

Yeah, I think Wolverine might be the favourite character of the current Marvel Editor in Chief so now we all have to hear about him all the time. I mean, why is he the major opponent in schism? He's hardly known for a political agenda. That's what made Civil War so cool.

Hey, did you read the latest issue of X-men Legacy?

I'm dying to talk about it but we don't seem to have a spoiler warning button on this site.

^ A Legacy fan too? I would love to talk about Legacy with somebody who isn't bitching about Rogneto.

I was really hoping to see more of a Cyclops/Storm or Cyke/Prof division on the team. I just don't see why anyone in their right mind would follow Wolverine willingly. Granted, if it were 80's Claremont Wolverine, I could see differently, but he's written far too inconsistenly so its difficult to take it seriously.

I guess we'll wait and see

Sorry about the necromancy, but...

- A lot of press was devoted to the most recent character to take on the role of Batwoman: Kassandra Kaine. This press was mostly because Kain was an out lesbian. The series was widely praised.

Whereas the rest of the post was cool, this was a glaring issue. If you mean by "widely praised" that Batwoman was "openly derided as an obvious publicity ploy". then yes, you're right. If you meant that she was a popular character because of her sexuality, then no, as there was a lot of backlash at the time. Whereas the series may have been critically praised, it had nothing to do with Batwoman....

Also, Extrano was considered a serious character by DC, and not just a parody of Dr. Strange. DC was trying to bring a number of its comics into the "Modern Era" at the time, and The New Guardians was seen as a symbolic way of doing that. Of course, it didn't help that most of the characters had some sort of stereotypical ethnic tie (such as a Japanese man who could control technology and an Australian aborigine with ties to the Dreamtime). The serious was thankfully killed relatively shortly thereafter, and most of the characters either killed or forgotten about.

I stated that the press was largely due to Kain being a lesbian. I didn't say that the press was good or bad, only that it received a large amount of press because of that fact, publicity stunt or not. I also did not claim that she was popular because of her sexuality, only that she was made notable (and the series itself) because of that fact. In terms of the series itself, from the reviews and sources I've read, the buzz is that the series is good. That's all in there.

But thanks for supplementing what I wrote. It's good to know that within the press, it was viewed as a stunt and that the character was met with backlash (though I never noticed it myself reading through those articles), despite the series being widely praised upon its release. ...Unless I'm wrong and the series was viewed as a bad run overall.

Thanks for that info about Extrano!

Cassandra Cain is the asian Batgirl. Kate Kane is the Batwoman you are looking for ;)

Luminum: Yeah, Extrano gave everyone advice, and wanted to be called "Auntie". You know a lot of palms hit the face that day.

Obviously I read way too many comic-news outlets. I'm honestly not sure how she was treated in the regular press; I usually don't read newspapers much any more. A lot of the comic news people were, "Really? How obvious could it be that DC is trying to one-up Marvel?". With the possible exclusion of the Ultimate X-Men couple, Marvel seems to have a little bit more fun with the idea than DC does; DC couplings, even the straight ones, seem more forced than Marvel's.

FWIW...

Loved legacy of late I reall like Legion seriously if they stop the whole "mental" thing and give him times he's under control he could be such a good character although I usually don't like the uber powered mutant who has the ability to fix everything.

I hope the do a Madrox and at least keep one personality free.

so, im resurrecting this thread for no particular reason... just wanna chat about the x-books ive been reading recently.

so, x-men schism. the prologue turned out to be even more of a joke than i ever imagined. seriously, i dont use this phrase lightly, but 'schism prologue' is an insult to readers. jeez.

but the event itself has been decent so far. at this point, the tension between wolverine and cyclops seems a little forced - we know they are gonna turn against each-other from the press releases, but i dont see from the story so far why it is happening now. anyway, there is still space for the story to play out, and the new villain is ridiculous but fun.

x-men legacy, new mutants, x-force,
and x-factor are quitely going about their buisness, telling good stories. i salute emanuela lupacchino in my pants whenever she shows up to draw shatterstar, rictor, or longshot. seriously, i want to marry shatterstar or something. not happy about kicking karma off new mutants, but danielle moonstar kicks ass. x-force has got me interested in psylocke for the first time in ages, and it also appears to be the only book where the art is both consistent and excellent.

uncanny has had a couple of pretty decent issues since gillen took over, but the recent arc (fear itself tie-in) has greg land on art, an uninteresting villain, and once again more characters running around than it should. frustrating! generation hope has been decent after a slow start, but im still not convinced why i should care more about the five lights than about anole, rockslide, hellion, surge, dust, pixie, the coockoos, bling! etc.

astonishing and x-men V3 are both decent, but i cant really think of a reason why those books exist. i actually really liked the recent arc with the evolutionary, but i dont see why it couldnt have been told in uncanny.

I've been a huge fan of the New Mutants since the first graphic novel way back when. However, while the stories haven't been bad, I'm sick of all the so called event storytelling that bleeds into every X-book. I've been considering dropping NM lately.

I love X-Factor though.

do you feel that has been a problem with NM specifically? i guess '2nd coming' and 'age of x' interrupted the ongoing storylines, but one could easily skip the crossover issues and just pick it up again afterwards. the only crossover NM has truly engaged with was 'necrosha x', and i think those issues were pretty good. in fact, NM #6 (the issue where cypher comes back) is one of my favourite issues. its strange, i dont have much previous investment in most of those characters, but the book has just been written so well, it has been my favourite x-book for the last couple of years.

speaking of new mutants, just read the latest issue, #28. the execution isnt as elegeant as im used to from this book, but at least the focus remains firmly on the characters, and the author seems to have mostly good ideas. karma seems to not have been written out after all, which is a relief, but her scene didnt really make so much sense to me. nate grey appearantly has joined the team, according to the recap page, which im really not sure about. i think his character is pretty much worthless and should never have been brought back; then again, the scenes with him and hope were pretty good. then again then again, i dont want to read about nate grey and hope in new mutants; i want to read about dani and karma and sam and doug. the art is solid, overall another decent issue.

New Mutants is one of my favorite X-books but Mavel cancelled the subscription service and I live 2 hours from the nearest comic shop so I'm always a little behind.
I haven't been real impressed with the storyline in X-Men. I'm hoping Schism will really shake up the X-Universe.

Right now the only X-Books I am truly not feeling are Astonishing and Generation Hope.

Astonishing has been just trudging along for quite a while now. The stories just aren't that gripping.

And I agree with what Hylas said... I would rather be reading about the Young X-Men than the 5 annoying kids being lead by Hope.
