Sad, Kerry Rhodes decided to stay in the closet. On the internet the latest rumour is Kerry Rhodes is getting married to a woman in June. But nobody has seen this lady yet.

I have read some comments on other sports forums and the consensus is that Gendreau is using his sexuality in order to get media attention and ahead.

Yep, that's what I thought too. But don't tell that to some of the hypocritical queens on the interwebz. I was on the Huffington Post this morning, and the Latte drinking queens couldn't get enough of this story. Yet every time a story featuring Brendon Ayanbadejo was posted, you'd get these snarky cynical posts from fags who never really watched the game of football - claiming he was an attention whore.

Now they're trying to make this butta face the poster child for courage and strenght..

White gay men (& light-skinned Latinos) with athletic bodies & good looks are idolized.

Rumors are rumors. If thats what he did, cool. The point is, he's gay (And not playing straight to 'fix' his PR shit) and out. He is an NFL-caliber player and I hope it is a calling to other players that it's okay to be gay.

I don't idolize anyone (well...maybe Chaka Khan ).....it is boring. This guy that you like so much...he could turn me straight. Blech. If there is anyone I think is sexy right now...it is Michael Strahan...and it damn sure isn't because of his money.

I think you got a point, remember, Ellen Degeneres having Chris Kluwe the white NFL player on her show but not Brendon Ayanbadjeo on her program?

Of course, Ellen didn't want the black man who started the whole fight for equality for gay people in the NFL Brendon Ayanbadejo on her program. Ellen Degeneres is no better she simply interested in engendering a white gay image as if white queers are the only ones making a difference for gay rights.

And Chris Kluwe also was on the cover of Out Magazine which of course is a white gay male publication.

I think that's one of the problems I have with the white gay community some of them refuse to acknowledge their white skin privilege.

Brendon Ayanbadejo is really putting himself out there a biracial man speaking out for gay rights.

Brendon Ayanbadejo being so outspoken about gay rights. I think it is fantastic to see a young black man in the NFL be so passionate about it. It was Brendon who started this whole NFL gay rights getting into the mainstream.

Yes, especially those losers at Outsports.com, I think they really want this white guy Alan Gendreau to be the gay Jackie Robinson. But I wonder if Outsports is just using the poor guy? From what I have read this guy isn't good enough to make it to the NFL.

I remember reading an article on Huffington Post in December last year and a gay man actually wrote the piece called the gay community wants the gay Jackie Robinson to be a white guy. The gay author pointed out the NFL and NBA are mostly black, and the NHL is mostly white.
From what I have heard this guy Alan Gendreau isn't that good, he tried to make the NFL last year but did not make the cut.

The "gay community" at large...here/there/everywhere... is full of gay INDIVIDUALS and his statement reflects who he is and says nothing about anyone else. Why can't we have both masucline white and masculine black gay guys?

I'd like to see diversity in the way gay men are represented, especially on TV shows, but I know that's a little off-topic.

Honestly, I think if it was a black or Asian gay NFL player coming out it would have a bigger social impact BUT that's just my personal opinion.

Outsports.com really wants a white gay guy to do it, but I don't think it would have a cultural impact.

I don't think if a white gay guy comes out in the NFL that it would be that big a deal. I think if it is a white gay guy it would be more of the status quo.

I think it would make the news BUT I don't think it would cross cultural lines into communities of colour. I don't think many people of colour would care if Alan Gendreau or some other white gay comes out in the NFL. I think in order for the social impact to take place to generate real change and dialogue it would be better if the gay NFL guy was a black, Latino, or Asian NFL player.

Like, if that Manti Te'o guy or Kerry Rhodes actually did come out I think it would be explosive. It would have a real social impact and make a real difference across racial and cultural lines.

People of colour would talk, and they would be forced to reconcile their misconceptions about masculine gay men excelling in professional sport.

That's why the Manti Te'o and Kerry Rhodes stories are so explosive because it shocked a lot of people that these men of colour are in football and gay.

But, for gay male athletes of colour those guys have more to lose, they have a deeper and intense struggle and it is harder for them to come out.

We need a Black Masculine player to come out for the reasons I listed above. The Black Heterosexual community needs to be challenged. I for one would love to see the fall out among the homophobes who only see Gay men as weak cock sucking sissies. This player needs to be Black, and he needs to be FIRST for history's sake.

MorrisseyX - that's precisely my point. A white player would make news for all of 1-2 days. He'd be paraded on all of the magazine covers, and he'll do the talk show circuit. After that, the significance will fade...

With a Black player however, I just believe differently. The conversation will last for years.
