Coming Out Kicking: openly gay kicker trying out for the NFL

Meet Alan Gendreau. He's openly gay. His teammates at Middle Tennessee State had no problems with him, because he was good.

I am very interested to see if he makes it. I hope to God he does.

P.S.

He's cute.

And Jeeze, who would of guessed he was the lucky middle guy

If he doesn't make it in, it's because he's a shitty football player which in my opinion, he is.

It has nothing to do with him being a friend of dorothy. If he's a good player like that 90 second video proclaims he is, then he has no problem.

And Kane stop putting race into it. We already have many successful and still going professional black gay people.

Gurl, that list...

God help us all.

On the sports websites I've checked I hear this guy Alan Gendreau isn't that good a football player. So if this guy isn't good, why is Outsports trying to use this guy to promote their cause? The first gay male in the NFL should be be a good football player FIRST that's the most important thing. If a gay man can excel at sports and prove to the world he's got a lot of talent then he can make a difference in changing perceptions.

But this guy Gendreau just looks like he wants free publicity if he isn't good then it won't matter.

Gay male athletes are not going to get respect from the heterosexual men if they aren't talented. If this guy Gendreau sucks he just hurts the cause.

All it takes is one person to give him a chance at some point. There are numerous athletes who aren't even drafted that can make a big impact in the NFL, so it really doesn't even matter about that. He's training so that he can try out later. Give him a chance, and maybe he'll just prove everybody wrong.

Heck, you want an example I'm sure. How about this guy: fellow kicker Adam Vinatieri. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 1996. He's won 4 Super Bowls and was a part of the all-decade team for the 2000s.

Now, I'm not saying Gendreau is going to replicate Vinatieri's career. All I'm saying is that what you read means nothing until some team says "No."

I will put race into it as long as it's a valid point to be made.

I'm grown, and I do what I wanna!

Did you guys just make this about race and not the fact it's an openly gay player? :dead:

Jeez. The good sis DF was right.

Exactly. Fighting over whether it should be a white or black player who is the first openly gay player is stupid. Just plain stupid.
Grow the fuck up. The important thing here is to have an openly gay player in America's favourite national concussive sport.

Putting anything else on it only shows your own personal issues with race and not the issues with sport.

See, that's where you're wrong; it's not a valid argument yet. There are currently zero out gay men in the NFL. If it ever gets to the point where there are 20 out gay white men in the NFL and zero out gay black men, then you've got yourself a valid argument.

But Alan Gendreau isn't that good I just checked and I think only two NFL teams are looking for kickers during this draft and I don't think Gendreau got picked. From what I have read this guy isn't good enough to be in the NFL. Last year Gendreau tried to make the cut and he didn't make it either.

How sad and disturbing is to read a post like this coming from a gay minority man, over and over again. what you described is exactly how you portray yourself here, and have for a long time. there are very good looking, black, indian, dark skinned latinos, asian gay men out there.
The difference is they are confident and you are not. work on that or you will not go anywhere with this low self esteem complex of yours.

That's becuz there's a double standard in the gay (male) community.

White gay men (& light-skinned Latinos) with athletic bodies & good looks are idolized.

If you're Black, Asian, Indian, dark-skinned Latino or Native American............nobody cares. Unless you have a lot of money.
