Congratulations Fox News on 15 Years

Thank you. All the questions we had about you have now been answered.

What questions did you have?

I'm pretty close with parents, and growing up in their home & as their son, it shouldn't be too surprising that I share a lot of their views. I've gone to Republican club meetings with my parents dozens of times.

My dad is slowly coming to terms that I'm gay, but he tells me, "if you're going to be gay, at least be a conservative gay. Don't be one of those wacky liberal activist gays screaming and protesting in everyone's face."

I'm not a huge fan of MSNBC either. Again, that's why I get multiple viewpoints and draw my own conclusions. That's the downside to being an independent. Most Americans subscribe to the middle, leaning fiscally right and socially left. If America stayed on that track instead of pulling to either extreme, we would be better off. The problem is that many news programs cater to those extremities and there really isn't a middle-ground news program that is interesting. I kind of like Carville and Matalin for that reason when they appear on CNN. It shows that you can put aside political differences and make a union work.

glad we can agree max - hope you're doing well

those sox are making it difficult aren't they?

and poor gorgeous tom brady actually had a bad day - hehe

There is a reason it's called the "September Slide". Sox always choke in September. That isn't news.

The fucking Bills man! Did anyone in the NFL see this coming? 85 is deadweight on the team though.

Oh well, I at least have my bruins to look forward to. You see that ESPN spread on Boston teams? ZOMG Patrice (left) is sex with a [hockey] stick. Seguin ain't bad either.

video here too...

Okay, I apologize for derailing the thread now :(.

Gave up on Fox after what they did to Joan Rivers. Oh, wait, that's not Fox News. Uh, news. Oh, yeah, they have a lot of attractive white people who all have the same opinions and say the same things. It is one continuous Op-Ed owned by that Defender of Civil Rights, Rupert Murdoch and his humpy son. Fox News sucks up bandwidth to protect and defend my people...the white Christian people. For that I am grateful. But they stand for more than just the defense of our Savior and our race. They strive to protect and preserve the sanctity of marriage and promote their heterosexual agenda. I am all for marriage and know many heterosexuals andhave nothing against them. Thanks for giving me a choice, FOX News!

I haate when people make such a blattant typo: it's FAUX new, not FOX News...

That is also why I watch Fox news.

They are fair and balanced.

A corporation that goes to court to defend its 'right' to lie to the world is not fair and not balanced.

My dad says that liberalism is a mental disorder.

Interesting to see that your father thinks most of the founders of the country suffered from a mental disorder.

Let me translate what your dad said:

You chose to be gay, and we really wish you'd change your mind. If you won't, learn how to hide and pretend, and keep a low profile so you won't cause problems. Learn your place and keep it."

Fifteen years of misinformation, skewing of facts, demagoguery, scapegoating, bigotry, enshrinement of anti-intellectualism et al.

Seriously, here in the U.K., the likes of Fox News come off as parody of stereotypical, U.S. Right Wing nut-baggery. We hear the likes of Bill O'Reilley, Rick Santorum, Sarah Palin etc and we automatically take it as irony, simply because the alternative is too unimaginable, too impossibly vile to conceive.

This guy rigorously combs every story Fox puts out, and emphasises every instance of misinformation, of skewing, of outright deception:

There's a hell of a fucking lot.

Seriously? Translated, what your parents have said is: "Oh son, we really wish things were different. Those...gays really don't fit in with the ideal fo humanity we have in our heads, but if you must...at least keep a low profile, don't draw attention to it; keep your head down, just nod and smile and go along with it...everything will be alright..." Even as they're locking the basement door. Alot becomes clear now.

Fox is less far right than MSNBC is far left - in all important primetime

It's not even close

Frankly I think Fox in primetime has gotten soft a tad boring

Shephard Smith - milquetoast
Bill O - success has made him lazy
Sean is a doofus
Greta is ........ can't get past the tilted grin/smile

MSNBC
Chris Matthews
Lawrence O'Donnell
Rachel
Sgt. Schultz

NO COMPARISON

so Fox is the ONLY right leaning news space
while the rest is left
with MSNBC being much further on the fringe

so all the Fox haters should really get a grip on the reality which is the media is Obama loving, progressive loving and Fox hating

and get a life boys

one "other side" shouldn't get your panties in a bunch so severely

oh yeah - try watching once in a while too before you open your trap about it

that'd be fair and balanced

cheers ;)

Take a look at the World Public Opinion survey that hotatlboi cited. It is interesting to note that, for nearly every question surveyed, the more frequently FOX viewers watched FOX news, the more ill informed they were. With MSNBC viewers, the more frequently they watched, the better informed they were.

It's a joke to, therefore, say FOX News is fair and balanced when more exposure to their programs results in greater ignorance.

Whether you like FNC or not -- belittling them when you've never watched the channel just shows that you are not very open minded.

Reading blogs or watching MSNBC for your FNC info doesn't qualify.

Like Chance, I don't really watch many of the nightly opinion shows on any of the channels -- they just are too depressing, same old shit.

Normal people get their news from different sources.

Again, I'm very glad that there is competition. Without competition there is propaganda ... and that is pretty much what we had before FNC -- just ask your parents or grandparents.

There choices were whether they liked the news reader -- it had nothing to do with the content of the news.

I'm sure almost everyone here has watched it at one point or another.

The fact is that they are ill-informed and deceptive in their presentation and viewpoints. They actually have a ton of right wingers convinced that they don't have a right leaning bias, which is a joke and an example of the terrible discernment of a lot of right wingers.

I'd note the same lack of discernment among any left wingers that claim MSNBC doesn't have a left leaning bias.

CowboyBob, being "open minded" is not the same as agreeing with the liberal point-of-view.

We can disagree without being disagreeable.

By the way, last I checked, did the Bush White House or any conservatives ever try to take MSNBC off the air, or take the New York Times out of the press?

Can you say the same thing about liberals, who have constantly tried to silence Fox News, and where the Obama administration has all but declared war on a news agency (Fox News) -- which by the way has the highest ratings of any cable news network, by far.

So who are the real "open-minded" folks here? Hint: It's not the liberals.

I first saw Fox News when the channel appeared in the U.K. on satellite in 2002. At the time, the pace of the talking seemed very fast to me, but that was because the only other American news station I had in comparison was CNN International (which is a dreadfully slow-paced and boring channel)

I never really took to watching much of Fox News. Never agreed with most of what they said. The only show I semi-regularly watched was the O'Reilly Factor, and even then I only agreed with about half of what was said.

They have way too much of a United States superiority complex on that channel.

I'm a very open minded person. Like I said before, I watch, read, and listen to a variety of news sources.

I do not drink anyone's kool-aid.

Liberals often think that being open minded is the same thing as their meaning of bipartisanship -- which means that everyone needs to agree with their point of view.

There is nothing wrong with having strong opinions. However, I would have to say that liberals tend to be more hateful when others don't agree with their opinions.

Just think if FNC had been around during the LBJ Administration while the Great Society was being pushed though Congress. Life would be entirely different for many people in the USA. There would be a good chance that there would be many nuclear families left in the US -- especially among black families.

The amount of welfare money spent since then could have been spent on roads, bridges, etc.

Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security would probably be healthy.

All this could have been if the press would have had an open mind and presented the good and bad points of the legislation.

I'm glad that FNC is around so we hear more, learn more.

Having FNC around makes the other news organizations present more balanced news.

Jack, Jack, Jack.#-o If Fox News had been around during the LBJ administration, there might not have been Medicare and Medicaid. These programs were created during his administration over the vociferous opposition of the Republicans and conservatives, who condemned these programs as socialized medicine. The programs were weak. Over time, successive Congresses strengthen the programs and made them more comprehensive. How do you think the existence of a right wing news channel like Fox would have made the programs stronger when the right opposed them so strongly? Fox has championed Paul Ryan's budget proposal, which would destroy Medicare. You really should educate yourself more before making such silly statements.
