Convince me to vote for either two candidates

I come from a 100% Democratic family and was raised in a village that wasn't but a percent or two below that absolute figure, so feuds and party infighting aren't new or alien (or even necessarily disconcerting) to me. But that's because I know that, come deciding time, it all comes down to party, not personalities: I do not vote for a candidate in the general election -- I do not vote for Obama or McCain -- I vote for the Democratic Party's nominee. This is a fundament of party politics, it is essential to the advancement of our political and social goals, hopes and dreams. Don't think so? Ask any Republican -- they'll tell you the exact thing, if they aren't lying just for the fun of it.

this is why i hate politics.....and parties.......its illogical to call yourself a democrat or republican....there is no possible way one believes in everything a party NOW stands for.....because everyone can agree.... no party represents now....the ideologies they were founded upon....if you do......you need to brush up...wait no....study a civics book...and re-evaluate....i dont know if you were just pointing out how people vote....not trying to single you out...but ive met a lot of people who vote like this...and that is just absurd

Why do you choose to reduce your argument to that level? Who are you to question the decisions made by others, in pursuit of their own interests? Why must you, Sir, go nuclear as the only option? Nuke me once, shame on you, nuke me twice, why...

Because I have been reading these post's for many months while you were on your little sojourn and have yet to see a valid argument from some JUB posters for their devotion to their candidate and their irrational hatred of all who question him.

Your cautions against "going nuclear" may be good advice, but are hardly consistent with your history. How can I account for this dramatic personality change from JUB's most infamous member? Prozac? Neutering? Mid-life Submissive? Obamafication?

Apparently so. Like a few others on this forum, I live in New York, a place where opinions outnumber rats and outsize their ferocity. Yet in my one year JUB sabbatical, I have to tell you, I hear none of the anger and bitterness that is evident here -- none of it. And how could we cope with such anger, for the city would turn against itself, were it afflicted with the bitterness and resentment seen here on JUB?

And I add one last thing: the worst of the tension and conflict isn't over on election night. After all, guess what's next? Governing. We have to govern wisely, deliberately. And we have no room, no margin, no time, no spare draft for error or miscalculation -- we have to hit the ground running and get things right. That's hard enough unified, it's impossible if divided.

Or maybe this lunacy, this bitchy, high-schoolgirlish behavior is just a JUB thing...

Pretty much... That's what I called it. Like a girl being stood up on prom night. Or a kid taking his ball home because the other person isn't playing nice.

But in credit to the Hillary supporters, most have moved on. It's just a couple of spiteful and bitter people that cling onto Hillary's clitoris (hey, I'm ripping an Obama remark).

President Barack Obama!

One good reason to vote: if you don't, you will have no right whatsoever to complain for the next few years!

In every argument about politics you will be asked "so who did you vote for in 2008?" and if you say you didn't, you will get a blank "poor little dumb thing" stare.

Speak now or hold your breath till 2010!

Good point.

And if you pick a 'third party' candidate, people will blink and go, "Who??" Then you get a chance to explain why you thought both candidates and even the Big Two parties sucked, and call anyone who voted for "the lesser of two evils" a coward.

^ Sir, keep in mind, I think Obama is too conservative, so his "socialist" policies aren't "socialist" enough. The closest to a party one can find for me is the Liberal Party of Canada.

Therefore you should vote for Obama. Of the two candidates with any chance of becoming President, Obama clearly has policies which at least lean in the direction you would like to see prevail.

You clearly do not want to vote for McCain as to do so would be to support the more illiberal policy program.

Voting for a third candidate is an option (Ralph Nader, Bob Barr, Cynthia McKinney, and Chuck Baldwin are also standing as Presidential candidates). If one of these candidates is standing on a platform which equates to your personal values and hopes then vote for them. Unfortunately, as none of these candidates has any chance of actually winning, the pragmatic approach would be to vote for Obama as the best hope for an administration which comes closer to your preferred political direction.

The 1st one said my top candidate was Obama, with 63.64% match, and it's runner up was McCain, with 63.64%. So...uh...how can one prevail over the other if it was a tie? Cynthia McKinney got 50.00% lol
The second one's page froze because of it's fucking advertisement. Bitch.

I think I saw posts in which you support Obama, but you should go with who has been consistent, who seems real and honest, and which issues matter to you more. Even john mccain's own party has criticized his negative campaign and sarah palin can barely construct a proper sentence. mccain has been caught in blatant lies, he has been deceptive and he and sarah both have ethics violations stemming from their abuses of power. mccain tells the public he is not george bush and a maverick, yet he voted with him over 90% of the time. He also said on more than one occasion (as late as 2007) he didn't know much about the economy, but all of a sudden when he was the nominee, he is supposed to be an economy whiz.

Ralph Nader (IND) 70.75%

1. Theoretical Ideal Candidate (100%)
2. Barack Obama (77%)
3. Christopher Dodd (endorsed Obama) (76%)
4. Hillary Clinton (defeated, endorsed Obama) (71%)
5. John Edwards (withdrawn) (71%)
6. Al Gore (not announced) (71%)
7. Wesley Clark (not running, endorsed Clinton) (67%)
8. Joseph Biden (withdrawn) (66%)
9. Dennis Kucinich (withdrawn) (61%)
10. Bill Richardson (withdrawn, endorsed Obama) (60%)
33. Stephen Colbert (campaign halted) (17%) :( I'd vote for him . :D

Looks like you'll be voting for Obama...
