The 153 meter tall tower will be located at the intersection of Scotts Road and Cairnhill Road, in close proximity to Orchard Road, Singapore’s famous shopping and lifestyle street. With 20,000m² of built floor area, the building will provide 68 high-end apartment units with panoramic views. The design strategically maneuvers within the highly regulated building environment to maximize the full potential of the site: Four individual apartment towers are vertically offset from one another and suspended from a central core.

Located in Dubai

The Burj Dubai will be the world's tallest building when it opens in 2009. Its shape is inspired by the indigenous desert flowers that often appear as decorative patterns in Islamic architecture, but it also has an engineering purpose: The swirl shape ensures that the mass of the structure lessens as it reaches the top, making the structure steadier. A mixed-use building developed by Dubai's Emaar Properties, the Burj Dubai will house shops, offices, residences, and entertainment venues.

wow.....the US spends its money on war....think of the other things we could be doing.... :(

Very cool. Thanks for posting.

The last photo is a bit alarming -- the remnants of the continents after global warming and all the ice has melted? :(

^ If the polar caps melted there wouldn't be any land left, or at least only the tops of the highest mountains.

I like the first photo, but haven't we learned anything from those crazy people in Babel?:p

The first building looks cool as hell... but also as if any part of it could just fall off at any minute, LoL.

The second building is adorable. How cute!

And the third building looks scary as hell. No way I'd go to the top! My pansy ass likes to keep his feet firmly planted on the soil.

Yeah the 3rd one looks ot be more of an Arcology - massive city-in-a-building - than an actual building.

Since everyone here knows of my love affair with the city of Seattle, I decided I'd post a pic of the seattle public library. When it was brand new I remember reading in the newspaper that the architect conceptulized it as what a stack of books looks like - a little off, not perfectly stacked.

The Bow - new Headquarters for EnCana Corporation - Calgary, Alberta. This will be the largest tower in Canada outside of Toronto when completed, and the second largest tower in the country in terms of floor space. I can't wait to watch this thing rise up!

i someone says the sydney opera house i'll physically castrate you!!!

The opera house sucks, it's going all yellow and they can't clean it properly coz they mite wreck it! it costs heaps of money each year on upkeep to the australian tax payers, technically 70 something years on it's still not finished as it's wheelchair access sucks.

The architect who designed it actually hates it.

Metta is correct about U.S. war spending. Let's pull out and let Hamas, al Qaeda, Taliban and the Muslim Brotherhood take over the entire region. Can't wait for the Taliban and Al Qaeda to take over Dubai and bring those towers down like they did the giant Buddhas in Afghanistan.

those two buildings in dubai were the first to come into my mind...i am beginning to learn arabic so that i can go over to dubai and work as an architect eventually :) thats my goal at least

very nice. metta, you're right that we could be doing some interesting things with our buildings and infrastructure instead of spending our money creating more terrorists by being in iraq. however, the way dubai throws money around still makes me sick. they remind me of the disgusting moral squalor of ancient rome before the fall. do they need to spend hundreds of millions of dollars creating islands shaped like the continents...??? couldn't they perhaps invest that money (our oil money by the way) elsewhere in the arab world where it's so desperately needed? 60 minutes had a great story recently about the disparities between rich and poor in dubai...i swear the way they treat their poor, they make us seem civilized.

The Akron Art Museum. It's set to open this summer. I've watched it progress from this twisted, strange steel frame into this twisted, strange glass structure. The brick building in the front is the original Art Museum.

This is the Polymer Science Building located on the campus of the University Of Akron. It's been open for several years now. It's sort of become the crown jewel of the Akron skyline, even if it isn't the largest building we have. It's actually two separate towers connected in the middle. It's one of the foremost science facilities in the world. It's even considered to be one of the top terrorist targets in the country. Fun!

I love the BullRing Shopping centre in Birmingham in the UK! It looks fabulous day and night, and its one of the most unusual shaped buildings I've ever seen!

Where is this building located, gmoney?
It appears to be melting!.

Metta, thanks for starting such a great thread and for your photos.

I love looking at high rise architecture.

This building was proposed for Dubai but I believe the project was canceled, which is a shame because it's stunning.

Here's a neat picture of the Burj Dubai under construction.

am i the only one who thinks that chihuly is overated?
he basically uses three shapes, twisted horns, platters and orbs
the only real variation in his works are the colors
