I am getting lots of requests from guys in Russia who are searching for long distance relationships and possibly relocate to the USA if a relationship develops. I'm meeting these guys on OKCupid and gay hookup sites. I have ignored these contacts in the past, but recently starting to exchange emails with a few of them.

These are very attractive guys. If they were nearby, I would not think twice about hooking up with them.

I don't mind being a sounding board for them to vent their frustrations, but I don't wantt to be targeted by the KGB either.

Is anyone else experiencing requests from Russian guys?

They'll want to know your line of work enabling them to assess your usefulness.

Don't underestimate their tried, and tested methods.

Predictable targets are public service workers particularly civil servants working in sensitive departments. Also those employed in high tech industries.

Photographs of athletic young men provide sufficient bait to entice those who believe that discreet, and attractive Russian men cannot find suitable partners in their home communities.

On the other hand the requests may well be genuine.

Even if they're not KGB agents, they still could be using you to gain US citizenship, and then promptly divorce you after they attain it(this happens to straight people at times as well). Whether or not you would be ok with that arrangement, which is actually illegal btw, is up to you.

They are opportunists.

Pure and simple.

Ignore them.

I had the same experience - wanting to know more about me and what I did. Once I said I couldn't help him financially or sponsor him, I never heard anything more.

If they find your birthdate, what city you were born in and what the name of your first pet was, then they can hack your e mail (if you aren't going through a P.M. system like JUB has), the next thing is your bank account.
If you use your e mail, then set one up just for this purpose and be cautious about personal info.

The KGB no longer exists. And they just want a green card or citizenship. In Europe we get the same thing, but mostly with guys from countries like Ghana, the Gambia, or the Philippines.

They hit me up all the time. Its too bad too. I have a thing for Russian men.

That situation might change now that President Yahyah has been deposed.

Even if they are completely sincere, desperation is not a good basis for a relationship of equals.

I stay away from guys who eat stuffed cabbage.

Here are some of the pictures one of them sent to me. He used the name Gleb Radut. He said he lived in Moscow and worked as a journalist for a magazine.

Do any of you recognize these pictures?

It goes without saying, but there should be no hesitancy to Skype so you have a live interaction, regardless of erotica.

You should still be asking yourself why a guy with his looks would have any problem finding a beau in a city the size of Moscow. He looks wealthy enough and well-clad.

Of course, it's possible he simply wants to come West, but it's much more likely there is another motive.

He said we could chat on Skype, but there would be no video. He uses the WiFi at a coffee shop to send me the letters. So, we never got around to actually chatting on Skype.

As to why he would pursue a relationship outside of Russia, all the guys say the same thing. It is very difficult to have a gay relationship in Russia. A gay couple was jail for one year for showing acts of affection out in public; they simply kissed.

Employers are required to fire anyone who is known to be gay. Gays can be beaten, harrassed and threatened without any recourse from the police. Life is very difficult for gays in Russia as I'm understanding it. Gays have to live hidden and be secretive about their relationships.

If I were you, I would ignore it. It's most likely a scam, either to marry someone from the west, or to rip you off from Russia. It used to be Russian women seeking husbands, but now that gay marriage is legal in the US and most of Europe, gay guys are doing it too. At the same time, try putting yourself in their shoes: being gay in Russia (if these guys are really gay & sincerely looking for love) is very dangerous, you would do anything to escape! This reminds me of how I feel when I see someone hitching a ride that looks desperate: do I keep driving, or maybe pick up a psycho? If you do decide to stay in touch with any of these guys, take every precaution. Make it clear to them you are not wealthy, most Russians are very blunt, and they will move onto someone else if you're wasting their time. The porn star Michael Lucas made a documentary about being gay in Russia that's excellent called "Campaign Of Hate: Russia & Gay Propaganda" that's available on dvd or iTunes or Netflix, I got it through Amazon.com. Michael grew up there and had to endure being gay & Jewish!

if those stills are of him, he has access to a laptop and Skype, be it his or another person's. If he is refusing, he is likely not the person in the pics.

Wait for the request for money.
He's probably using someone else's photos.

Do you think the Russia's spy agency would monitor you just by being a pen-pal with one of its citizens?
