President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused fellow NATO ally Germany of being beholden to Russia because it buys energy from Moscow, in pointed remarks ahead of a summit of the military alliance in Brussels.

"Germany is a captive of Russia," Trump said at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, his first since arriving in the Belgian capital. "It's very inappropriate." (CNN)

Okay, it`s the decision of the American people if they choose an uneducated, egomaniacal and dangerous president, but to offend and discredit his friends, is unacceptable and short-sighted. But we had to learn that the USA and the Trump-administration wishes friends like Saudi-Arabia, North Korea or the Mudschahidin in Iran. Good luck with that.

I don't even know where to start with today. It was as bad as I had feared.

He is playing to his base and to Putin.

Germany hasn't lost a friend. Trump lost the election by 3,000,000,000 votes. However thanks to our antique electoral system, he won the White House. Most of us know who our friends are, and now we have to clean house.

I wish this were entirely so. I would feel much better if Trump was polling at about 15%.

But the scariest part of all of this is seeing that consistently, somewhere around 40% of Americans seem to share Trump's vision of America and the world.

Even when he is gone, that isn't likely going to change for some time. The world is never going to look at the US in the same way after this 4 years. Broken treaties, shambolic, destructive foreign policy, insults unchallenged by the rest of the US power establishment....all of these added together will make it impossible to trust America again. Even repudiation by the next bare majority win by the opposition won't make this go away. We'll all forever be looking over our shoulder.

That was one reason why Europeans were looking forward to Hillary. We know here, she was here. I do not know if she would have become a good president but in foreign policy, she was a factor of stability and a friend for us Europeans. John Kerry was an excellent Secretary of State, wise, reliable and respectful. The Germans loved Bill Clinton and even Republicans like James Baker, George Shultz or Henry Kissinger were liked. We knew we could count on them.

But I'm sure if Trump is gone, we'll have another chance. But it is a hard and long time. And it will not stop me from visiting the US next year for the second time in my life. I know that Trump is not the US. There will be a time after him. But do everything so that he is soon gone.

He also thinks that the other NATO nations need to pay back the United States for paying for them. He hasn't figured out yet that that isn't the way it works.
