DADt repeal on life support

Here is the vote roster from the last time around
http://politics.nytimes.com/congress/votes/111/senate/2/238

Only three Democrats voted no, the two Dems from Arkansas and Harry Reid. Reid is obviously a yes vote, but I understand he had to vote no so that he could bring the legislation back up for another vote.

I saw on the Huffington Post that Senator Lieberman is claiming that there are enough Republican votes if Reid permits sufficient time for debate and amendment. I think the Repugs just want to be able to stall. Any amendments would require another vote by the House of Representatives. The Repugs just want to run out the clock to appease their base.

Well this is not really a concern, since the bill as it is now is not identical to the House bill AFAIK. So a conference committee or the House passing the Senate bill as is will still be required.

Also at the press conference Lieberman only named two GOP senators so far (Collins and Lugar) as confident yes votes if the debate structure was more open. We may need more than those two since the GOP has one more member in this session (Mark Kirk of IL).

Its not clear how Kirk will vote yet. He's a big supporter of the military, so if the survey comes back and says that they support the repeal by a large margin, he'd be very likely to vote for repeal.

Also; although he voted against attaching the repeal to the defense bill, he DID vote yes on the bill that ended up having the repeal attached to it, which only further muddies the waters.

She said in an interview after declaring her victory that we needed to work on Jobs and the economy and these 'other' issues must take a back seat.

I think that will be the Republican rally call about this. Why are we doing this when we could.......

Fuck me.

Well it's clear that Reid's adjournment date of Dec 10th is not going to work with an expanded full debate.

So he better be willing to extend that.

very nice to see us all on the same side here :)

Which are the gay ones?

If you have the means and the desire then please donate for this cause. This is the time to place the pressure on the Senate to do what is correct for our country. Many, including that stupid bastard JSM, pledged to overturn this if the study results stated it would have no impact. Well it says just that and the man in charge believe it to be the most comprehensive study of a personnel issue ever conducted.

So what's wrong with the thought of getting one of the important ones out of the queue quickly, so that Congress can actually know that it got SOMETHING done?

If I have a bunch of projects to do, and I know I can quickly get one of them done (even though it may not be the most pressing one), I'll certainly get that out of my queue, and I'll feel better about attacking the other ones.

I hear you but even the democratic side is saying the the current one two is ... tax cuts then START ratification....both will take forever.

I got my "Repeal DA/DT" letters in the mail to all the senators listed up in post #34.

If you're not great at writing, just print out the cartoon I offered above and mail it with your signature.

Don't be a slacker here -- be heard. And don't forget e-mails, either; doing both is not overkill.

And when they take up the bill, try a phone call.

In 10 days yeah it could be done
I doubt it. Not with START, tax cuts, the DREAM Act, and other things in the schedule too, with the estimate that a full debate on the NDAA would take 1-2 weeks. That's why Udall and others said they were willing to work to Christmas eve. I think they are starting to realize that's what it will take.

Olympia and Snowe have said they would make their decision after reading the report.
That would be a big help, if Snowe could split herself into two people thereby giving us two more votes.

START should take about thirty minutes, if people are being sensible.

Oh -- this is Congress.
