Daylight Saving Time

sun_cp_5928166.jpg

The American Congress "has adopted" the new law and I don't think it will start this year; but come 2007, I think DST will move 2 months forward before it will end....

Let me check further on this.....(*8*) (*8*)

Here ya go, here's what I found:

The new U.S. energy bill

On August 8, 2005, after years of debate in Congress, President George W. Bush signed a sweeping energy bill that he touted as part of a long-term solution to the nation's energy problems. Beginning in 2007, the new law will extend daylight-saving time by four weeks to save energy. Daylight-saving will begin three weeks earlier, on the second Sunday in March, and end one week later, on the first Sunday in November.

(*@*) (*@*) (*@*) Muhahahahahaha!!!! (*@*) (*@*) (*@*)

Us rebels in Saskatchewan NEVER change our clocks. :D Take that everyone. :p

Australia is changing its daylight saving regime too. Or more correctly those states that adopt daylight time shall change. In 2006 we will go onto daylight time on Sunday 29 October and revert to standard time on the last Sunday in March. In 2007 Victoria, South Aust & the A.C.T. will go onto daylight saving time at 2am on the 1st Sunday in October (the state of Tasmania already uses this day, as does New Zealand) and those states and Tasmania shall revert to standard time two weeks later on the 2nd Sunday in April.

This whole thing is now beginning to suck. It appears the US shall be out of sync with the UK and Europe, and now Australia is changing too. Previously it was fairly easy to mentally convert time between Aust and the USA and UK. In 2007 it will be difficult remembering who is up who and who is not paying, who is on daylight saving and who is not.

I think the northern hemisphere countries should harmonise their approach to daylight saving time and when the northern hemisphere moves into daylight saving Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Paraguay and the Falkland Islands should move to standard time and when the northern hemisphere moves to standard time the southern hemisphere moves to daylight savings.

KISS - keep it simple stupid.

I understand the advantage of DST, but it can be a real pain.
Hawaii and here in Arizona, we don't bother with DST. In the height of summer it's bright until almost 9:00 PM. So we don't need it. People who work outdoors prefer working the earliest possible shift to avoid the hottest sun.
Consequently our time constantly varies with other states and countries. Before we make any calls we have to remember if the place we're calling is on DST or not, so we don't bother people by calling too early or too late.

We Arizonans always have the correct time. We don't spring foward nor fall back. It's the rest of you that have problems. Oh, I see that some Canadians don't fall for an of this crap either!

Didn't the US have daylight saving time year around until the early '80s? Parents complained so much about kids having to go to school in the dark that they changed it. I do not like to get up in the morning in the dark. So I will be glad to see it go until next spring.

But what will I tell my cows ?

Okay, I don't really have cows, but I hear they get pissed about the whole thing.

Um hon, that's because most of you country bumpkins don't own a watch...You just put your thumbs in the air and make a sun dial with your hand. :p

Seriously, what I hate is the extremes at either end of a time zone. In Boston it gets dark so damn early compared to Toronto.

I don't really care for daylight savings time here. With Seattle being the most northernly large city in the US, the length of day varies so much over the course of the year that it doesn't really make much of a difference either way. In the winter, our days get down to about only 8.5 hours long and in the summer up to about 16 hours long.

Thanks for ripping up a painful memory... On Monday I lost my watch :( DAMNIT. I'm a mess at uni without a watch... I NEED to know the time.

BAH!

I suppose I shall have to splurge and purchase a $10 Walmart watch. (!) :gogirl:

Plus, is there something wrong with being one with nature? We also have a way to tell the time during vicious snowstorms, when one can't see the sun... but if I told you our special Saskatchewan secrets I'd have to kill you... and you are too good looking to die such a painful, painful death. :p
