deal breakers

The obvious, as previously listed, being rude and inconsiderate. But much more critical flaws would be wearing gold neck chains, thinking thongs look sexy and tassel loafers....

.

- Superstitious
- Considerably shorter than me
- Smoking/drinking a lot
- Bad grammar
- Dislikes animals
- Wears suits most of the time

Yeah, I'd probably not date a guy with those traits.

Astrology. That's pretty much the big deal breaker for me. If someone believes in astrology seriously and not just as a joke, I can't date them.

After that would be frigid guys and then people who try to force their religion on me.

Hygiene is a big one. Poor hygiene = undateable.

Racism.
Misogyny.
Excessive machismo.
Smoking.
Snottiness to the service personnel.
Cologne.
Eye makeup.

You must be a Scorpio. Scorpios never believe in astrology.
Yes, I'm kidding.

Bad Hygiene
Rudeness
SMOKING
Astrology
Strong Religious beliefs
Dislikes animals
Is surgically attached to his damn CELLPHONE!
Those damn things have gone out of control. Really.

I'm surprised at the people who list "strong religious beliefs." Are you perhaps thinking only of Abrahamic religions?

What if he has a strong religious belief that all acts of love and pleasure are holy rituals, and that making love to you is a sacred act? What if he has a strong religious belief that giving pleasure to another person is an act of worship?* What if he has a strong religious belief that all people are entitled to basic respect, and would no more be rude to a waiter than he'd spit in his grandmother's face?

I'm not just making shit up to be argumentive. Those are some of my "strong religious beliefs." Am I deal-broken by them?

ETA: Assume that I never try to impose my religious beliefs on you, or even mention them unless you ask.
_____
*Not of you. Of the Divine, partly manifest in you.

What I meant (and I could have sworn I spelled it out in my post) is people who try and force their religion on me. I don't care if they're religious, just don't spew it in my face and we'll be fine.

Having a boyfriend that you just forgot to mention would definitely be one.

Aside from that:

Personal Hygiene
Bad breath

There are many annoying things I tend to overlook when I am romantically interested in someone.

Are there other things I COULD spew in your face? :-) My religion would not be my first choice for face-spewing, that's for sure! (*8*)

A jacket tied around the waist? Boy, was that stupid! Your friend should stay away from France and Italy.

So do all of you who listed Strong Religious Beliefs agree that it's the compulsion to share or impose them that would bug you? So if he got up every Sunday and put on a tie and went to church, but never said anything to you about it or tried to get you to go, that would be OK?

This is correct for me too. I have my own beliefs, but I never push them on anyone. I expect the same.

As to this.... well.... it depends. I have gone to a few churches with different friends in the past. I did it for the event, more so than the "word".
So this wouldn't kill me. Now if he ignored my morning boner and went door to door in the morning to pass out the watchtower....

Ummm.... NO.

he has a dramatic streak, my friend. they really didn't have much in common, turns out. i just thought it was funny.

Come to think of it: STUPIDITY. I like smart men. My partner and I were at a restaurant a few nights ago and we changed tables because I couldn't stand listening to the conversation of the cretinously stupid party at the next table.

Strong religious beliefs are a deal-breaker for me...I do not want to be with someone whose moral code is dictated by doctrine. Independent thought is something I strongly value.

But, a less serious answer...he has to like pools! And swimming! :D

Understood. Sounds like your friend is more clever than stupid.

One thing that has begun to turn me off lately is when someone demands to know too many personal things about your life and history up front.

Of course, some things are fair game; such as relationship status, city of residence, and I really don't mind a new acquainance being curious about my ethnicity.

But some things are just too personal or sensitive to discuss with someone you've just met; particularly when you've given no indication that you'll be having sex with them immediately.

People have to earn your trust and confidence.

When I meet pushy, prying, busy-bodies; I usually excuse myself from the scene.
