With all the fuss made in the forums - it'll be good to really know.....
unless all gay guys automatically swish wrists and make coy faces at everything even remotely hunky that comes their way

To me, it just means "most people would guess the guy is straight".

^ Yes. They're "gay-acting". That's all there is to it.

Is it all an act? I don't think so. I don't think I deliberately hide my gay traits. Just how I'm made up.

Lex

Straight acting - A masculine man that no one can tell or even assume he is gay, though he really is, but you'd never know it because he is straight acting.

I think the term is highly prone to being misunderstood because of the word "acting"; most anyone can act straight or gay. The truth is some gay guys are flamboyant and/or feminine and other gay guys are modest and/or masculine. The latter being what some might call "straight-acting".

But what if youre just you?
And happen to like men

What shows through that make it seem like acting?

I mean gay guys I know dont swish
dont have limp wrists
And straight guys I know lisp, are shy and even blush before women....

Where's the act that's supposedly put on?

Don't read too much into the "acting" part. Pretend that the term is "straight-BEHAVING". :)

Lex

Although, I know some people that you would assume were gay and they're married to beautiful women.

Would it make a difference if they were married to ugly women?

I've heard a bunch of guys here use the term "straight acting" when referring to themselves. I usually giggle because you can tell they're not. There's one guy here who's such a queen it screams it from the self-pic in his avatar, but he still claims to be "straight acting."

Which I think is funny.

The term "straight acting" is used by losers who think that being stragiht is better than being gay and if they at least can PASS for straight it means they're not as low as the gay guys they dislike for not being able to hide their feminine side.

Of course it's all just bullshit. Most gay men you can't tell just from a 30-second conversation. I've stopped trying to hide being gay when on Fratmen shoots and not only do the guys take a day or so to ask, but they're much more comfortable around me than they used to be when I was pretending to be straight on shoots.. When I'm not comfortable I give off a vibe which makes everyone around me kinda.. uneasy.

Call it a git.

I never really give much thought to how I act but when you get those gay guys who are going SO far out of their way to come across as straight it's always a laugh. Just be yourself.. if you're gay and you act a certain way.. that's "GAY acting.. becuase you're gay.. and that's what you act like."

in the big scheme of things who cares? you are what you are.

Just be happy - make an effort not to deliberately hurt anyone.

what more can we ask? (*8*)

I disagree -- it's acting all right. It also means that they are at least somewhat closeted - big red flag. It's also a way of expressing shame for being gay. If it weren't acting, there would be no need to bring it up in the first place because being oneself would be more important than a label. It partly comes from Protestant (or maybe Catholic) guilt imposed by their family. I've met guys from the mid-west who told me they thought they were evil because they were gay and could not get over the guilt they felt. I mostly met them in New Orleans around Mardi Gras time.

People who want to label themselves thusly bore me.

dude.. dont ever take what lex says seriously cuz he can always fall back on sarcasm

I act like...me. I'm not some macho guy that you'd take one look at and think he's straight. I'm not a queen, either, and I don't even act gay at all. I just act like me.

It just means that most people wouldn't be able to tell youre gay and would assume you to be straight. I dont much care for the term, but there isn't really another term that has the same meaning (masculine, macho. butch don't have quite the same meaning).
