PMSL. That statement is akin to saying, 'people generally like animals, except when they are being eaten by them'.

The fact that Fox is so popular, is down to singing the tune of both the dumbest, and the most bias Americans. The ones who are incapable of, or uninterested in, scrutinizing the news they are fed. Its most certainly NOT because it is a respectable news channel.
At least CNN has a broader appeal....as in fact do almost every other.

Remember Benvolio, being the popular kid may be everything in school, but in life, you need to be respectable, and Fox just aint.

Actualy there was a time when there were controls on who could own what and how much. News agencies were effectively non-profits supported by the networks' other divisions. Then along cane deregulation (that was Bill) and the landscape changed

Nowadays news has to support itself, and people like Murdoch (foreigners) are allowed to build huge media empires. Welcome to the age of infotainment. Fox gets the numbers it does because it does not care about news, it cares about emotions, and how to exploit them to make cash.
 
FOX is an entertainment channel; little news.

And for those relying on FOX for news, they are most likely also have to wash their knuckles because they still use their hands for balance while trying to master human walking.

A further serious objection is that, in the area of politics and most areas, much alleged fact is opinion and ideology, seriously influenced by the ones deciding what they think is true or false.

In Canada it's illegal to broadcast false or misleading news.
Nice way to remove any uncertainty as to who is right and wrong.

Trust and truthfulness are very different things.

Many people will believe opinion over fact, and this is where companies like Fox specialise. Barking down a camera, dismissing alternative views.

They feed on people's fear and greed centres very effectively. Some people want to believe certain things, and Fox knows these people have a faith and belief driven world view.

The US does not have censorship yet. Do you recieve Fox News in NZ? The reason it is most popular is precisely because the liberal/democrat media do not often allow non liberal points of view to be presented fairly.

We have all kinds of cheap crap on cable. If someone wants to pay for their propaganda to be visible everywhere, cable companies are happy to indulge.

Fox paid up to $11 per subscriber to get on US cable networks in the nineties.

While CNN has several world-wide networks; FOX has opted to play only to the crazies in the US. CNN follows a news format; FOX is entertainment.
