Dems calling Republicans bluff on 'fiscal cliff', the Bush tax cuts aided Romney the most

A semi-coherent rant from some nutbar on a Breitbart-clone site is the best proof of your #2 assertion, Benny?

Please explain how extending this tax break will make the economy better? We have had that tax break since the Bush II era, and it didn't make everything better, did it?

I'm still waiting for your solution on how to pay for congress and government without raising taxes, Benny.

Google "mexico food stamps" and you will find a plethor af sources. Take your pick.
What you don't realize is that extending the ten year old "cuts" results in a huge tax increase to all income taxpayers and some who have not been paying. The biggest percentage increases will hit the lowest income tax payers because they got the biggest cuts. The top payers will get the lowest percentage increases, because they got the lowerst cuts. This big tax increase takes money out of the pockets of consumers and employers and reduces spending and hiring, causing the recession to resume.
When the economy is stronger, if ever, we can increase taxes on most Americans and, in the meantime decrease spending.

Again, this is basically a reprimand on Obama. The GOP has such an irrational vitriol towards him that it is insanity.

I think things have drifted from the original issue: the wealthy are getting special treatment, special privileges, and the Republicans are fighting to keep them "more equal than others". That's not only unjust, it's bad for the country.

Taxes could never be high enough to satisfy you could they? Special treatment? The top 25% pay 86.6% of all federal income taxes,Income Tax Shares - Who Pays the Largest Income Tax Shares in America while more than half the eligible voters pay no federal income taxes.
So, yes, the "rich" get special treatment, they pay all the income taxes.
And your post illustrates why it does no good to compromise with liberals. No matter how much the successful pay, it will never be enough, because it is not about taxes. Democrats need class and racial warfare to get elected. They will always have to say the rich whites do not pay enough.

The view from the other shoe is that the Democrats are the ones holding country hostage, when conservatives and many moderates feel it is a bad idea to raise any taxes in this economy, they are threatening to raise taxes on everyone in order to get taxes on the 'evil rich' instead of addressing spending. Now both sides have ground everything to a halt while they hope the election will give them some sort of mandate.

actually Star is spot on here

the "threat" and Pres. Obama loves to threaten - hurts the economy as people are unsure about what's going to happen and thus put off decisions - just the way the govt. is doing now

Obama should extend the cuts or at least go for TRUE millionaires - as in those making > $1M annually

the $250K play is bullshit

Pres. Obama has made his bed

he had two years of 100% control - now he wants the Repub. House to do what he wants

The tax cuts will be extended as the Republicans have more of what Japanese pilots had in WWII

The house will vote to extend all cuts. Then the Dems can do what they chose.

One of the big things keeping people uncertain about the economy is the incredibly low (single-digit) level of confidence in Congress. No one knows whether the Republicans in the House will play Russian Roulette with our credit rating again, or whether Reid will decide that if they won't play he won't either.

If Obama would grow a pair and do an LBJ on Congress, confidence would climb because it would be evident we actually have a leader, instead of an "organizer".

The Dems will have little choice, The House will vote to extend all the cuts. Then the Dems have two choices. 1. Extend the cuts. Or 2. Let the cuts expire, raising taxes on all taxpayers, and take all the blame.

BINGO!!!! I really don't have a lot of problems with what Obama is doing, my main problem is that he is not LEADING.

I'm afraid on this particular issue both sides ARE equally guilty.

No, they're not. One side is trying to compromise on multiple issues, our probably super left president is almost right-leaning now after years of trying to meet the other side. Meanwhile Republicans are filibustering everything, refusing to cooperate on any level and blaming it ALL on the President. How about no on that one?

It's like that post I made in 2 other threads: Obama tried to pass a bill that would give TAX CUTS to BUSINESSES that brought JOBS BACK TO AMERICA. Guess who blocked it?

He was giving them what they wanted on a silver platter, and they basically threw it on the floor and said, "fuck yo' silver platter!"

he's not leading? He's taken the charge in many things. It's not his fault he has a party that is trying to obstruct everything he does. The man can't even tie his shoelaces without republicans criticizing him.

shoelaces? Fartbongo is against velcro! He's hurting the velcro industry and destroying billions of velcro related jobs! Did you know that the 9/11 hijackers wore sneakers with shoelaces? This proves his ties with al-qaeda!

I called Bush as a Texas cowboy when he was elected, and he followed that to a T. I called Obama as a community organizer with a touch of professor, and he's fit that right down the line.

It's time for him to break out of the mold and reinvent himself as a statesman with a sting. He should start campaigning against Congress, specifically the House Republicans -- whom a majority of Americans blame rightly for our current problems. It's time for him to explain that they are sabotaging the economy, holding the American people hostage, and that if Romney is elected it will just get worse, because they agree that what they're doing now is the thing to do -- only they'll go farther.

He needs to do some speeches that hammer in the point that income is income is income, and that it should all be taxed the same. He needs to do some speeches driving the point in that there are far too many tax breaks, and demand that the IRS immediately determine which are used by whom, and eliminate the least used in a way that results in the number used by those in each tax bracket are the same.

I really don't like the man, but if he'd do a combo of LBJ and FDR and Reagan, he could bury the reactionaries and make Romney look almost as bad as a Dukakis. I would at least then respect him.

It was a bill Reagan -- and Eisenhower (besides Truman) -- would have loved. But as Republican a bill it was, they wouldn't pass it because it wasn't theirs.

I'm to the point of asking Alfie's old question: why does the GOP hate America so?

No. A leader would be calling congressional Democrats in and reading them the riot act, and then calling in Boehner and other sensible Republicans and laying it out: stop licking the shoes of the reactionaries or he'll get medieval on their asses. LBJ pulled it off, and if Obama was a real leader, he could too.

Maybe he should drop in on Congress one day when Cantor is speaking, and throw a shoe at him.

A leader would realize the the economy is more important than ideology at this moment. He would forget about the demand for higher taxes on the taxpayers and work with the Republicans torevive the economy. Hussein, for purely ideological reasons-- the dollar amount would not be a dent in the deficit-- has errected a road block to biparty economic legislation. He blames it on the Republican, but it is not winnig the election fpr him. The economy is losing it for him. In the end he will either agree to extend or take blame for a tax raise by vetoing the extension.
