do the math - pretty straightforward

fox is 3-4x the size on an average basis

do the math

Slightly Off-Topic question, but are primary debates normally Televised, and if they are what kind of ratings do they. While the whole Dems getting to share the perspective with the opposition is a decent reason for them debating on Fox, I kind of doubt it would get much attention.

It isn't just "the other side" -- someone here noted that there are a lot of Democrats who watch Fox. I'd see this as a chance to get some of them to pay attention to the people their party has in the field at the moment. I suspect that Bill Richardson would look good to a lot of Fox voters, and Lieberman might also.

As for the party thriving, I hope with all my heart that the Democratic Party (which is neither democratic nor much of a party) would collapse in the next five years.
Of course, I also hope that the Republican Party (which is neither Republican nor a fun party) would dissolve into nothingness in about 2009.
Oh,I know...but according to the enlightened and progressive all-wise left, there aren't Democrats watching FOX,only the righty kool-aid drinkers and Red State racists, sexists, homophobes and inbreds. That we are having this debate with no movement from them,no intellectual openness and curiosity,is mind boggling.I'm more conservative here but I always try to take an independent stand, and I have a very difficult time with the religious right and their vision of Godly America...which would neither result in anything Godly or American. But I listen,I respect diverse points of view...I am a true classical liberal in the best sense.there is more to FOX and its audience than rigid adherence to conservative agendas and narrow minded bigoted rural Red State values..there are good people and good reporters there,if you look and carefully follow the good against the ideological blowhards. They are not insidious or evil.....that again the DEMOCRATIC Congressional Black Caucus put together sponsorship of the debate with FOX ,they saw an opportunity to work with Fox regarding issues confronting the inner city community.

Yet the left (Well represented here)treats FOX as a vampire or demon shows how ridiculously conformist and hysterical they have become. That whiite liberals know better than black liberals what is good for them is again the patronizing left at there most disingenuous and shrill.I think the Democrats have made a grave mistake, but it's done and the minds of the left here aren't going to change, contemplate anything but their comfortable rigidity and black and white view of the world....and it is indisputable on that ground.

I was referring to andreus's link

his story was fox news is down x% and msnbc is up y%

that msnbc was doing it to fox

the facts suggest something very very different

that fox dominates and triples to quadruples msnbc's audience

I don't do the ratings just read the charts - accurately

LOL

hope that clears it up

I think that makes me glad I'm Canadian.....

Than again... when I open the paper the first thing I go for is the Op-Ed section....always like to see the myriad of opinions people have....

Chance -- with regard to post 85:

That's the way to give statistics -- complete data. The article Andreus linked to is crap for statistics, which is why I posted what I did.

Always remember, when dealing with statistics, that statistically speaking each human being has one testicle -- and one mammary.

I'll be frank, I have some problems with FOX myself, but I can assure you that FOX has a conservative base that is well educated. I work in the medical profession and every time go into the doctor's lounge that's the news channel all the doctors insist on watching. I have worked in three relatively large hospitals since my graduation as a Nurse Anesthetist and most of the doctors insist on FOX, don't know why really. I personally think it's a market that the Democrats need to look at and hopefully influence in my opinion.

^^^^^^You highlight my poin exactly. Disregarding a medium whether or not you agree with the slant is ignorant. The idea should be to touch as many people as possible with your ideas. Not to throw a temper tantrum because the people you don't like are successful. DId you see 90's republicans dishing CNN? No they wanted the expsoure.

I heard a while back that Fox is what they watch in the nurses lounge at the local hospital.
So what is it with Fox and medical people???

I suppose by the logic of some here, that would mean all these medical people are Republicans... which I know for a fact isn't true.

It is a combination of things. Not to be highlighted in a few words. The point is reach the people. Not we hate the voice. If their message is true it will resound regardless of who provides commentary after. Besides if it is televised elsewhere do you not think it will be an event on Fox. Then they only get the clips and analysis from fox not the true message. SO that entire audience gets warped by fox, if that is your position. It is a stupid move, completely. I hope the Dems learn this for the next election.

There's an interesting implication there: by refusing to go on Fox, if the idea is that the commentators will corrupt the message, aren't the Democrats -- at least the candidates -- assuming that people are stupid? that they can't listen to the candidates and hear what is said?

That may be their thought but I would put forward that they are misguided at the least

What galls me is how the left is supposed to be so free thinking,progressive,open-minded and tolerant and accepting of diversity, but goes into a hissy fit over allowing a conservative-leaning news station that is the leading American cable news station co-sponsor a Democratic Party debate. They should run with it,embrace the opportunity...Republicans,as much as they rolled their eyes at and may have disdained a lot of CNN reports and analysis, nonetheless did continue to coopperate with CNN out of enlightened self-interest,which the Dems should do with Fox.

That rings true with my college experience. The Democrats on campus wanted diversity, but you had to be on their list of acceptable elements of diversity. Serious Christians especially weren't wanted, nor "rednecks". And the school paper was under pressure to be always politically correct.

This is just my opinion, no statistic, or scholarly analysis, but I think many live in fear of socialized medicine and the impact of what a government managed style system will do to their jobs and how they practice. They know the impact of what managed health care has had in this industry and the fact that medical lawsuits have literally run amuck in this country. All this paranoia gives them a conservative bent and FOX news helps to justify this view. Not saying it's right or wrong, just saying it's the result of an industry that has been highly scrutinized by liberals for many years.

You're right tho, I'm a medical professional and I'm not Republican either. I come from a family of stout blue collar Democrats. BTW, I watch both CNN and FOX myself.

Sorry folks, wanted to answer Kulindahr's question.
