OK, I hate to find myself agreeing with "Pretty Pete" after vehemently opposing his suggestions of violent retribution before, but after watching tonight's episode, I've changed my mind. I believe that the character played by Kevin Rahm is showing truer colors than simply wanting to prevent one's own death by allergic reaction can truly convey.

I don't think I even need to get into the various myriad reasons why; I'm sure it's obvious to all who watched (and to think, from the previews, I didn't even think they would be in tonight's episode). I did like the fact that someone finally put Katherine in her place after what she allowed to happen to her mom (or mother-in-law; I forget exactly who's mother she was, nor am I going to obsess about it; feel free to make a correction for the record here if one wants to). But, really, the Katherine thing aside, I think they've gone above and beyond.

And yes, indeed, I hate to say this, but I am beginning to reevaluate my decision to give Marc Cherry the benefit of the doubt. He may truly be a bit self-loathing after all, what with his depictions. You heard it here first... Normally, I would like to see gay characters that don't take any crap from anyone, but in this case...

Guys have you read the future episode synopsis on Wikipedia. Apparently there will be a tornado on Wysteria Lane, and a male character is killed off. Another male character will be left paralyzed.

I bet one of the gay characters is the one paralyzed... but who will be killed off????

Wow, then that definitely puts you in the underwhelming minority on this board. Even I don't care for them right now. They had better do some serious turnaround and Lee better start making up with Susan, or else me and PrettyPete might be doing a permanent duet bashing Lee (and even Bob, a little) every new episode. Frankly, I am almost wanting Desperate Housewives to get cancelled just so it means no one has to see those gay characters any more. It would be nice to see that gay characters in TV shows that aren't either gay republicans (Book of Daniel) or written by one (guess which).

Yeah, now that you mention it... where the fuck was she? Her absence in such a pivotal storyline where the focus was not on Lynette but on the effect Lynette's cancer was having on her kids (a major reason why she came was to take care of the kids while Lynette concentrated on getting better) was egregious as far as I'm concerned...

I'm just hoping Lee and Bree have a go at each other. I suspect they have a lot in common.

Though, if Lee is a good cook, maybe they'll wind up trading recipes.

And I'm losing a lot of my fondness for Susan. I thought her nervous numbskull routine when she met Bob and Lee was funny, but the nonsense over the fountain just makes her seem petty.

Why? When she stood up for them in front of her friends (granted, she only did it to try get into their good books, but she still did it).

She only changed her mind when they started disrupting her home life, showing no interest in that fact and being totally rude to her when she tried to talk to them about it.

I wonder why the gay couple are being written as such unlikeable characters

Katherine, Bree, and Gaby were all unlikable characters when we were introduced to them.

I don't think it's funny so much as it is great to see this kind of blatant homophobia by older people exposed on national TV for all to see, and have them be ridiculed by most of the residents of Wisteria Lane, which will make it less likely for older people who watch the show to say this after seeing what it is, unless they are able to use the characters themselves to point out some kind of supposition about all gay people being bad people with way too much spite to offer the world. After seeing two weeks of how mean-spirited both of them (especially Lee) are, it's the only good part of having them there. I don't think I've ever wanted to see gay characters gone as much as these latest ones on DH. Oh, if only the people who used to say what they said about Marc Cherry would come back... ugh.

Perhaps, but I fear that Lee and Bob won't get the chance to be redeemed. I don't see them becoming permanent characters on a show called "Desperate Housewives" unless they plan to rename it "Desperate Housewives and a couple of Househusbands, too". ABC is gay-friendly, but not that gayfriendly. Brothers and Sisters allows for and started off like that. DH, not so much. I just don't see the bad taste in people's mouths (dirty puns aside) being given enough time to be washed out with enough sympathetic scenes with them in it before they will be asked to leave. And unless they are given a dramatic U-turn with the way their characters are heading, it will be more like the fate of the Applewhites than Edie or Orson (who are still have a precarious situation or two left, themselves).

Since everyone else is mentioning what they find hilarious about the scenes, I find it hilarious that we're having the same back and forth conversations about Susan this week that we were about Lee last week.

IM(NS)HO, Susan made a few mistakes last week (especially bringing up with Lee and Bob that "right, cuz you can't have kids" when she found out Rafael was their dog -- quite mean-spirited and an example of homophobia), but she really did nothing wrong on this episode whatsoever. Not a damned thing. It's a shame some people can't see that.





On another topic, anyone notice the line from Gaby about being Punked? That was a very cleverly inserted in-joke about the fact that Eva Longoria was once Punked, and Jesse Metcalfe (who made a triumphant return to DH, and boy did he look good tonight with hair) was in on it, along with the scary-looking A__ton.

Desperate Housewives has always been at heart, a satire of suburbia. It's not their job to help America become more open-minded. Anyway, if anything Ida's stupid comments might make a homophobe that watches the show realize how idiotic they really are.
