Diana, Princess of Wales (1961-1997)

Re: 10th Anniversary Of Diana's Death

The World has moved on, let us move with it and leave Diana in 1997.

She was a very beautiful woman who courted controversy and yes, her death was tragic, but trawling up her memory every year does not bring her back.

We don't hear anything about the late Queen Mother or the late Princess Margaret or the late Mother Theresa of Calcutta: they are at rest, why should Diana be any different?

Very very good point, mother theresa died in the same year as Diana, within a few weeks I think.
mother theresa gave up her whole life for others, lived in the slums of calcutta and didn't attract media attention.
i'm not saying Diana didn't do good, but she was from a privileged background and she did continue to live a privileged life.

Do we hear of a 10year celebration of the life and work of mother theresa, no i don't think so!!!!

Let the woman rest in peace. Life goes on, as other posters haev said, we should move along with it

Re: 10 Years later, Diana, princess of wales

Ten years ago I was visiting a friend and we had talked a lot about her, because she and Dodie were very much in the news.

I went upstairs to take a nap and when I came back downstairs my friend told me about the accident. We were watching CNN. Then they confirmed she was dead.

It's difficult for me to even describe how sad and upset it made me for weeks.

I know many people in Britain didn't like her, particularly the Windsors, and I realize she was very flawed. Yet to this day there's something about her that makes her a very appealing person to me. I still miss her beauty, style and common touch with ordinary people.

I still miss her and her tragic end still saddens me.

Re: 10 Years later, Diana, princess of wales

It's hard to believe it has been 10 years. My dad woke me up and told me because I had been interested in the royals and had one of those childhood "crushes" on Diana. I was just 10 years old and I still remember that night very vividly, as well as the sadness of the week that followed.

My sister and I were watching TV the night they announced Diana's death. I remember pissing her off royally by saying something along the lines of "big deal, serves her right." Which still basically sums up my feelings about it.

My lover was out of town when I saw it on the news. I broke open a bottle of wine and stayed up all night watching tv. It affected me deeply for weeks.
I just watched The Queen recently with Helen Mirren and it brought out some things I didn't know.

Re: 10th Anniversary Of Diana's Death

Mother Theresa is still remembered, and there has been publicity about her journal being published, in which she explores her crisis of faith.

However, she died at age 87. She'd gone as far as she could.

Diana, Elvis, JFK, Marilyn, John Lennon...they all died unexpectedly at young ages, so it is natural that we have these "deathaversaries". I don't see anything wrong with that. If there even is an afterlife, I can't see how the continued publications of articles and books about these people can possibly disturb their eternal rest. If anything, it helps to keep their memories alive.

Greetings to y'all my fellow JUBerLanders. Hey, maybe it is because I've eaten too much for lunch, which often happens when I dine out (mostly most probably due to the restaurant serving large portions) that I broach a subject most likely discussed ad nauseam and for which I apologize if I've overstepped my bounds here in JUBLand and that is "the death of Diana Francis Windsor (nee Spencer) Princess of Wales."

Spurred on by another JUB thread on British royalty I often wonder and speculate as to whether Lady Diana was not, to steal a quote by Robert Allen Zimmerman (aka Bob Dylan), simply killed "by a simple twist of fate" but was actually indeed targeted by nefarious and skilled peoples.

H E double toothpicks will we ever truly know?

us.

a drunk driver, pursuing/harrassing papparazzi, high speeds and a steep/narrow tunnel- combination for diaster....the fact that the cameras were mysteriously off is the only thing that leads me to possibly think something else was going on- but for the cameras to be off would suggest some bureaucratic/governement involvement...and the 'white fiat' has never been found.

Oops, thanks for the move :) .

Okay, back to the thought at hand. Some pockets run deeper than either you or I could even begin to phathom.

No, it wasn't an assassination thing. Something that big would have been leaked by now. By snowden, wiki leaks or someone else

It was largely the fault of the construction of the tunnel with pillars in the middle. Any swerve or bump by another car is likely to result in a collision head on to the pillars. Moveable concrete barriers between the pillars would have prevented it by causing the car to glance off.

I don't know. It seems too many royal problems were solved by Diana's 'accidental' death. Just way too easy. People who cause royal problems always seem to have fatal accidents.

.. royal problems always seem to have fatal accidents.

This problem had to wait 34 years before having his accident in Paris.

I'm inclined to believe it wasn't an accident, but was murder, but we'll never know for sure. If she was pregnant, or would be later and Princes William and Harry would have a Muslim brother, that would have been an embarrassment and a problem.

No it wouldn't have been.

You know, a movie about Diana in particular how she changed people's minds about the aids epidemic would be really fascinating

If he did have a accident, would the end result have differed? Or if Diana didn't have her accident, how would things have differed then? See the difference?

Two lessons:
1. Never drink and drive, or ride in a car with a drunk driver.
2. Always wear a seatbelt, even when you're in the backseat.
