Discussion Thread from the Funny Anti-Religious Pictures thread.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I try to correct ignorance when I can.

And you really know how to kill a fun thread. Maybe you should start a funny pro-religious Internet pic thread to show your counter-view instead of spamming this one with your comments.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

This one should get a special award for ignorance -- the person who made it plainly didn't bother to read any of the story at all.

... said someone who obviously hasn't read the Bible much, or he/she wouldn't have made such a glaringly stupid error.

Someone needs to read the book instead of just snipping out verses without checking to see what they mean.
Oh dear ... I'm beginning to believe that no one other than Kulindahr-the-Wise has ever actually read and studied the Bible ... in the original languages of course ... just like he, presumably, has read and studied the Quran, The Hadiths, The Vedas, The Upanishads, The Agamas, The Guru Granth Sahib, The Tanakh, The Talmud, The Kojiki, The Tripitaka, The Dao De Jing, The Avestain, etc, etc, etc, in the original languages before ever daring to comment, criticise or laugh at the nonsense contained therein.

Now that really is funny! :=D:

Incidentally, if, from a Christian persepective, the state of one's immortal soul truly depends on correctly understanding the various disparate books of the Bible, one might have though that God would have put a little bit more effort into ensuring that the supposed message of salvation was crystal clear to one and all throughout the millennia, without any need for the study of dead languages and jumping through ludicrous theological hoops in order to attempt to make any sense of the garbled ancient tales gathered together and presented as a single coherent tome.

Meanwhile, great thread! Some very funny, and often thought-provoking, posts here. ..|

PS. Kulindahr, don't waste your time replying to my post ... obviously, it goes without saying, you are right and I am wrong. #-o

How is ignorance "fun"?

That anyone can laugh at material that has errors that could be pointed out by a fifth-grader who has actually read the Bible is truly sad.

I point out ignorance in order to make the thread better -- that's my "counter-view".

I point out errors that anyone with a sixth-grade reading comprehension level and a good ENglish translation of the Bible could avoid, and you get all sarcastic?

The point is that none of those three items had anything at all to do with the content of the Bible -- to anyone (as described) who's actually looked at it.

If you're going to have humor about something, it should be about that thing, not about some ignorant person's caricature. Otherwise you're the joke.

Yes. And I drop in on occasion to point out the crap. The truly funny ones are based on an understanding of the subject matter.

I hear this shit kind of shit regularly from many of the fundies here....more so now than ever since the election of trump

Gack.

That's not funny, it's tragic.

Those writers have about the same comprehension as the authors of the ignorant cartoons.

My apologies, I did not realise that you were the sole authority on the nature of humour. #-o

You seem to have missed the whole point of the thread. One can be amused by statements that one knows are not correct or twist religion to make the joke.

One is not amused by having to wade through all your re-quotes justifying your point of view. Surely you are not so dense to not realise that you are bogging down a light-hearted thread with your supposed superior understanding of religion. Plus of course that you are alienating every member who visits this thread.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Maybe the thread should be put in the Fun and Games section?

I don't care if it's religion or politics or what -- basing humor on error only makes a joke out of the one doing it.

Note that the greatest comedians depend on having their facts straight -- that's how Jon Stewart rose to the top, among others.

If people want to celebrate ignorance, it only justifies the view of fundamentalists that atheists operate entirely on faith and don't care about facts or truth. If ignorance is defended, then they are justified in doing so.

He hasn't missed the point at all. He knows exactly what he is doing and why. It is perfectly clear to one and all that his true reason for continually attempting to trash this amusing thread is that he simply cannot tolerate people laughing at the absurdities of his particular religious beliefs.

Do not assume that all who have posted in this thread are atheistic, some of us are not.

There's the fault in your argument. What fundamentalist Christian worries about facts and truth? The past elections proves they don't. 25 years as a bible reading southern baptist I see a lot of truth in the memes posted in this thread.

That's your particular fantasy. My participation in this thread shows it's wrong.

Do not assume that all who have posted in this thread are atheistic, some of us are not.

It's the general flavor of this thread. And it makes atheists look no better than the worst fundamentalists to many of the religious people here, regardless of which religion.

There's no fault -- all your statement does is concede that atheists are no better than the worst fundamentalists.

Beside that, there are a fair number even of fundamentalists who "[worry] about facts and truth" -- I know more than a few who became Christians because of facts and truth. Their problem is that having concluded that Jesus rose from the dead, they stop worrying about facts and truth beyond that, which is something I don't understand. There are a lot of the images here which address that, and I love them because they're based on reality.
