Discussion Thread from the Funny Anti-Religious Pictures thread.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

that's good, thanks for informing us.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

By that reasoning my Splendour thread would be thrown into F&G as well.

I think the difference is that when people comment about your splendid pictures, and conversation ensues, there's no outcry to stop talking.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

What if Hot Topics hosted both this 'FARIP' thread, and a 'Conversation about FARIPs' thread?

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Okay, let's see what other folks have to say.

I will hold off on any changes, until further notice.

Personally, I'd rather that the thread be left as it is instead of being split and divided between HT and F&G.
If somebody wants to argue each pic and meme, that's fine. Since arguing isn't required, I can easily push them out of the way and scroll on by to continue posting.

...but since this is predominantly a pic thread, they'll have to do some scrolling of their own to keep up with their arguments if a large vein of pics is posted between their posts.

I don't have a problem with compromising, but if this thread is sent to F&G it will surley die.

But if you do decide to split the thread, please, at least, keep both of them in HT.

Your wish is granted.

(Some cleanup may follow.)

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

For what it's worth, although I know I'm in a small minority here (very possibly of one) I often skip making posts in this thread. I've taken the hint that conversation for the most part isn't welcome, and for the most part any critique of atheism is especially considered uninteresting.

Mostly, I disagree with Kulindahr's ideas.

But often enough, I disagree with a farip here and there.

Just me I suppose. Feels like an echo chamber.

Kudos to Johan's mature attitude, though. Perhaps some others may gain from observing it.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Thank you opinterf. I think that it is better to leave this thread in HT than to transfer it and split it. I suppose that I could get used to going into fun & games if necessary. I used to ignore this thread because I was afraid of being offended, but curiosity got to me and I generally now enjoy this thread because I take it as fun and not serious as a rule. The bickering is bothersome, but everyone is entitled to an opinion and I usually ignore the comments and go on to the cartoons. Thanks.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Wow... I guess it's time to put my finger on the "ignore" button.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I think if someone spams a thread, they should be cited, end of story.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

For me personally, I am a long time poster here, and recognise that some things are best placed in another forum, and that the greater part that remains is best suited here in HT, rather than F&G.

I have raised the following reasons:

  • The majority of posts are pictures rather than commentary.
  • The fast nature of the F&G forum would quickly sink this thread and it would be lost to newcomers.
  • Often newcomers to JUB are in a point in their lives where they wish to reach out after the condemnation by their religious peers, and this thread offers a counterpoint of humour for their consideration
  • The original opening posts by former jubbers who deleted their accounts were purged by the system when the forum was updated but the cached copy in the Internet Archive shows the intent of the original poster Starcrasher here, where he posts only pics that take religious topics to task.
  • Together with the stated title of the thread, you could argue that general discussion about religious topics was off topic since this is a pic thread.

With regard to moderation, there is an active discussion being held in Mod Towers, and it has been on-going for a while now whilst we are reviewing this. Since the thread serves the members, concensus is going to be reached by finding out what you folks wish to happen. That requires you to state why certain content is allowable, and other not and why, and more importantly the reasons why it is important to remain in HT rather than F&G, then we can begin the process of moderation that appeals most broadly to the users here.

In all the years I have modded, opinterph's decision making has been exemplary, structured, and patient and deeply considered; first finding where the problems are, then resolving them within our Code of Conduct, Terms of Use and other forum guidelines, but based on fact finding and sound reasoning that does not favour friends nor foes alike, he has been impartial. He is seeking your input and he will take them into account before making any action about the thread itself. Our moderation ethos has always been so that the outcome is beneficial to the forums.

We also recognise that certain threads thrive best left where they are, and helped through a gentle moderation too. We can't please everyone at the same time, but maybe we can find a solution that benefits the majority, and in an informed and democratic way.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

F&G is a dead zone, apart from about 10 regulars like dynk, and like dynk most of them don't actively engage in threads beyond posting one or two words in the long running threads, none of the people who regularly post in HT go near the place, it's the Siberia of JUB.

Why would Johan or anyone go to the bother of finding pics to post when no one will see them and there will be no feedback, I just can't see any other reason for this thread to be put in F&G other than for it to quietly die of neglect.

Please think again.

LOL

Fun & Games folks call HT a dead zone.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Feedback to me implies, great thread and perhaps some general chitchat.

Not the full on attack Kuli engages in endlessly

I don't see any other reason for you sending this thread to F&G other than to kill it.

Wow -- this looks like a serious persecution complex.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

In my humble opinion, opinterph should step aside from the decision on this thread based on a biased friendship with Kulindahr. If other mods think it should be moved, then let it be moved. If they think it should stay, let it be.

^The mods/admins have been privy to my deliberations. Total transparency.

that's good, thanks for informing us.

If you paid attention to how things work on JUB, you wouldn't have made the first post, and had to say thanks. Mods never make big decisions alone.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

reminds me of the old Bill Cosby shtick about Noah :rotflmao:

"How long can you tread water?" spoken in a very deep, God-like voice

A friend and I did the Cosby routine as a skit at Methodist church camp.

We got chewed out by staff for being irreverent.

Well put. He sometimes brings to mind a movie quote I can't quite place: "Ya think too much!"

And he's a darned good listener.

I would get more than a chewing out...

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

My efforts are aimed at making the thread a place of quality rather than trash. It's amusing to see how bigoted the accusations against me are.

This post above is a good example: threads are here for discussion. If my comments belong in the religion forum, so does the entire thread.

The members visiting this thread are well aware that the cartoons may well be exaggerated in order to make them more humorous. I find it slightly insulting that a member assumes that we are incapable of seeing the bias in them.

I must admit that I find your insistance in continuing to post comments in spite of the many requests to stop strange. If I was spoiling the enjoyment of other members by my behaviour I wouldn't think twice about stepping back and stopping posting. I wonder what battle and for whom you are fighting.

This is a picture thread and therefore all comments should be disallowed.

If Kulindahr wishes to continue with his obviously religiously biased comments then he should be allowed to post them where they belong; in the Religion Forum. He can simply start a thread there and repost all the cartoons accompanied by his comments on them.

I would prefer the thread to remain in HT for the reasons stated. Should it be transferred to F&G then it is obvious that Kulindahr's comments would be even more inappropriate.
