They're now over there commiserating that they got called out on their bullshit. Whining that we drew attention to their pretty obvious "issues" with masculinity and gender rolls, their bizarre references to gay characters on bad soap operas and their questionable understanding of what being "gay" means.

And then someone hauls out the old standard "yeah, and Jasun makes PORN!!!" Seriously, is that really the best/only argument anyone can make when they're backed into a corner? And I mean...how is it that threads on forums I don't even post at become about me?

Oddly enough, I'm not even arguing that gay men can't suddenly be attracted to women or someone's sexual orientation can't spontaneously change for no apparent reason. But the fucked up things they say to support it... makes it pretty clear that that didn't happen to them... they're just trying to convince themselves.

(My biggest laugh came from a thread stared by a "straight" guy who found them through this thread... Um... dude, if you're now "STRAIGHT"(sic) and no longer gay... what are you doing at JUB?)

I've looked at some of the posts on the OutStraight.net site and didn't see anything homophobic or mean spirited. (Actually, there seems to be a lot more vitriol on JUB but let's leave that aside for a moment.) The site doesn't appear to be a "pray the gay away" site, or a conversion therapy site like the ludicrous material that Richard Cohen and Joseph Nicolosi peddle. It seems to be more of a forum for gay men who've found their sexual desires changing, and not necessarily through conscious intent of their own. Jasun seems to acknowledge that that's possible. One could argue that those men weren't predominantly gay to begin with, but were always bisexual, and perhaps that's true. But the OutStraight.net site hardly seems to be worthy of so much condemnation. NARTH and Exodus probably cause a lot more harm, if only for the fact that they do seem to believe that conversion therapy works.

Why would straight and bi guys come to JUB? That's a good question, and the answer is probably more than looking at the Straight and Bi forum.
 
Oh, it's not too hard to find the homophobic stuff on there. It's been disguised a bit but it all seems to be about how gay people just want to have meaningless sex all the time and the guys all "decided" they wanted to become straight because they wanted "real" marriages and kids.

There's lots of suggestions that gay people are all about bars and parties but don't have lives. Lots of rather fucked up shit about how being straight is "better." Add to that the just plain weird "gluten made me gay" and

That said... after we called them on their crap... the Admin has been deleting pages, posts, sentences and entire sections from view. Probably half the stuff I'm talking about is gone.

I'll give them this... they don't claim to "pray the gay away" at all and they even seem to come down against conversion therapy of any kind... that's good. They acknowledge how absurd it is.. that's better... but when you have a guy saying that he's straight and not gay but found that site through this one... well, you can see they're all just a bunch of liars. And their rationalizations for turning straight suggest to me that they know how absurd the concept it but they're kinda grasping at straws coming up with reasons of why they "chose" to be straight.

But you know... I'm an asshole. Who makes porn. So take from that what you will.

Even though I have seen worse, it still does not mean that site is not homophobic or excusable just because other sites are worse.

Exactly right. My point was that not a lot of people are looking at OutStraight.net and trying to change their sexuality because of it. A lot of people are looking at Exodus. And that's potentially doing a lot more harm.

Making porn does not (or should not) make your opinion less valuable or correct. The ideas people espouse, and whether they're true or not, is what ought to matter.

So we criticize and speak out where homophobia we it exists, be it Exodus, Outstraight, or even here.

Yes Exodus does far more damage, but I don't think we should ignore the small sites as well.

Well, of course. But as we've seen MANY times here at JUB and once at "Outstraight," when you can't counter one of my arguments, just stamp your feet, call me names and say "yeah..well... YOU make PORN!!!"

On Outstraight, one of their members suggested that because I directed a "Straight For Pay" scene that I was being hypocritical...

What the member clearly doesn't get is that Porn is a fantasy... just like the heterosexuality of the members of Outstraight. All fantasy. Not real.

Their tag line is "OutStraight.net - The community for Bisexual, Straight-Acting, and Formerly Gay Guys" which kinda sums it up... the "straight" part is just an act.

And they're all over there licking each other's wounds since they can't come here to talk about it. Because they know we're right.

I think sites like Outstraight do more damage because if you just hear a few words... they almost sound rational and sane. And that's the part that's most dangerous.

Jasun....Where do I start?

First of all, I will acknowledge both here and on OS.N that some of the things posted in this thread have given me pause to take a hard look at some of the things posted there and decide whether they best serve or represent us. Let me be the first to give you credit for pointing that out. That said, it has strengthened my resolve and dedication to what our community is all about. We're not a politically-correct site. We acknowledge and embrace that. I am fully aware that what we talk about is controversial.

As to the reference to user Tom Dixon (not his real name), he just happens to be a personal friend of mine who found out about this site through an email I sent him and then registered on OS to post his response.

I don't want to waste any more time with this issue. I just hope people see that it's you and not me who is throwing out the vitriol. I'm not condemning you or your husband or how you live your life. I have said that I'm happy for you and I mean that. Please don't condemn me. That's all I have to say.
