I remember reading when I was younger that it is a myth that different drinks get to you in different ways... but I was thinking about it recently, and decided I definitely don't think it's a myth. There is a huge difference between being drunk off of wine and being drunk off of beer.

What do you guys think?

I've been thinking about it lately in general because, I'm going through a break up and I still want to go out with my friends and be able to have a good time, but I don't want to get dramatic drunk or sad drunk or anything like that. I just want to get kind of deviant and wild sort of drunk. Usually I just drink beer, that's pretty much all I've drank when I go out for the past 2 or 3 years, besides wine if it's a night in, on those kinds of occasions. I've decided that, given the situation, beer isn't a good idea right now because it gives me a very basic kind of drunkenness (if I even get drunk off it, which I usually don't, just buzzed) that can be prone to acting out if something is edging me on. So since there's a volatile situation, I want to avoid that likelihood... so I've decided to switch.

I'm just not sure to what. Wine + going out is never a good idea. Wine hangovers are the worst. I'm thinking of going back to gin, because I've noticed whenever I drink it, I just get this kind of smooth, subversive, like I said, deviant sexy kind of drunk feeling. I feel naughty, but not drunk in the way that I'd want to call up my ex. So that's good. I was considering whiskey too, but that shit makes people mean.

So, what do you all think? Do different drinks affect you differently? What have you noticed?

I never really noticed any difference - "drunk is drunk" and, because I think the only active ingredient is alcohol, I'm thinking it's similar regardless of which drink is chosen. At least I can't claim I ever noticed a difference being drunk from beer, and being drunk from kahlua and Manhattans.

Of course different alcohol content can mean different onsetsd of the intoxication. On the other hand, different drinks DO have different chemical compositions which I believe are basically "inactive" ingredients, but do they sometimes give somewhat different results from the alcohol?

On the other hand, I can definitely say that anything you may have heard about different kinds of marijuana affecting a person in different ways, is definitely true.

A couple of glasses of red wine mellows my mood.

I only drink wine when eating food.

I no longer consume other alcoholic drinks.

Ethanol is ethanol, and should have the same effect of your receptors....BUT I'm not too sure about the proportion of other alcohols in different drinks....and the effect of them (Well hopefully no methanol since it kills lol)

well you have to consider there's more than just alcohol in each type of drink. In my opinion these other additives, flavorings, tannins, etc logically could have a different chemical reaction within the body therefore causing it to have a different effect.

Maybe...though this logic can then be extended to soft drinks too?

I can drink an incredible amount of hard liquor and still stand, make it home, and not get sick.

Though a couple of glasses of wine will make me sleepy and give me massive headaches.

Sparkling wine makes me tipsy with two glasses as a whole bottle of wine. Don't know why.

Wine tends to get me touchy/feely/lovey/sleepy drunk.

Brown liquors get me aggressive (no whiskey for me) and I don't like it too much.

Clear liquors feel more of a "clean" drunk. Don't know how to explain it better.

Beer makes me contemplative and possible a little blue.
Wine makes me mellow and laid-back.
Whisky makes me flirty and upbeat.

Whiskey makes me kind of mental

Wine makes me mellow and centred

Beer just makes me bloated and blue

Vodka makes me want to sing and dance

Okay, it seems like at least a few people have the same kind of reactions as me... "blue" is a perfect way to describe what I was getting at with beer, and touchy-feely for wine, and "clean" could apply to what I meant for gin, although I was thinking like a clean, albeit sexy, deviant kind of drunk...

Never been drunk off of vodka... can't stand the taste, even if it's in something mixed.

Gin makes me dumb, and I rarely drink it.

Tequila, if Patron, I'm happy. Anything else and I hate myself the day after.

Rum makes me sober.

Vodka in bloody marys also does the same - mixed with Red Bull or anything similar, and I'm a whore on the dance floor.

Beer is a precursor to what will follow.

Wine makes me hot and horny usually.

:)

Well, the Captain has taken me out to sea and ravaged me so many times that I don't feel pain anymore

;)

Only with Diet Coke though. Regular Coke makes it too sweet, imho.

Everything just makes me drunk, unable to stand straight and usually pretty loud and touchy feely.

No matter what it is, the results are all the same.

Different people react to different things, I know someone who's gone after 2 shots of vodka, but can down gin and black label like water.

Oh, absolutely...

I can handle whiskey and vodka just fine. I know how much to drink, what it will do to me and my mood and when to stop.

Gin ? Forget about it. I either don't feel anything or "come to" in some guy's apartment I don't know....

Beer tends to give me a headache and make me nauseous.

Wine - -even really expensive wine - gives me wicked heartburn.

Tequila ? Well, that's a whole other story. Sip a *good* quality agave slowly and it's like a mellow, psychedelic like high... Very enjoyable once in a while.

Just before I quit drinking, I'd be fine all night on beer and ale,but I rarely drank only beer or ale.Usually about the 3rd or 4th beer and then I'd start in with the Scotch.I had good days and bad days lol..Most nights drinking would end with me coming to some time early in the morning with no memory of half the night..

I do know that Tequilla seems to get me into trouble.I'd seem after a few shots of it,my ''will every asshole in the room please fuck with me'' light would come on,and before I knew it,some guy would come up and say something about my mothers twat.Next thing I know,we're rolling on the floor.Tequilla was soon nixed from the drinking roster..

Jack Daniels was another favorite of mine and I drank that shit like it was my job.I usually had a good time on it.The hangovers were kinda brutal though. Then one morning, as I was dry heaving up my spleen- that was it.No more J.D. To this day, even the smell of it gives me juicy mouth..

For a while,I was on a Bacardi and Coke thing, then I burnt out on that.I don't know why.I don't remember any real scenes from rum.

Vodka was another blackout inducer for me.I drank that for a couple of years.I liked it with seven up and a little cranberry.Good stuff.I've crashed cars, gotten in fights, gotten arrested on more than a couple of vodka nights. Then little by little, I kinda stopped drinking it..

Glasses of Jaegermeister on the rocks to sip while I drank my beer became a staple for a couple more years. That went ok for the most part.Had a few scenes, but nothing too outrageous.

Then little by little, I started in with Scotch, mostly Johnnie Red, then switching to Johnnie Black because I found it smoother and the morning after wasn't as rough.Dewars would be fine as well.

Towards the end of my ''drinking life'' a great book by Pete Hamill by the way..[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Drinking-Life-Memoir-ebook/dp/B000SK41N4/ref=dp_kinw_strp_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2"]Amazon.com: A Drinking Life: A Memoir eBook: Pete Hamill: Kindle Store[/ame] I just found I couldn't handle it anymore.None of it.The blackouts, the hangovers, all the bullshit that goes with a lifetime of alcoholism.I gave it up.As Pete said in the book, ''I just don't have a talent for it.."
