How good are you at do-it-yourself projects around the home?

I do what I can....gardening, I have changed light fixtures inside and outside of the home, painted walls, changed a bathroom mirror which I wish I would of hired to someone to do because it was a huge dangerous mess trying to remove the original mirror, etc., but I have found that I need to stay away from plumbing stuff. My home has really high water pressure and you really need to know what you are doing when doing anything with it. I have messed up a couple times with the plumbing.

One time, I purchased some decorative hose smith & hawken faucets for the garden and I tried to unscrew the original one and I did not realize that it was welded on and not screwed on. I ended up bending the copper pipe. I had the plumber put it on and then I found that the damn fixture could not handle the pressure of the water so I had to change it again. #-o

And then there is the piping I put in to put at the back of the property so that I could put sprinklers behind the property in case there is ever a fire back there and it has since leaked in 3 places because of the water pressure is so high. The gardener that I had come to repair it told me that I should of used copper because of the pressure. #-o

Well I tried and have learned what I should do and what I should pay someone else to do.

Esh...I really need to stay away from the plumbing.

Apart from painting i'm fucking useless at DIY - I'd much rather pay someone and have it done properly than fuck it up myself.

I am pretty good, I have redone an entire bathroom with a little help from my Dad for the framing. I am really good at plumbing I do electricity but I don't like it. I am pretty good with patio stones. I give you an example of my work.

I consider myself a DIY master. I love it and I never pay anyone to do anything for me that I can do myself. I've put in wood laminate flooring, layed tile, replaced toilets, bricked in my patio, painted and wallpapered, installed chair railing and cornice boards, replaced a gas water heater, plus I do as much of my car maintenance work as I'm qualified to do such as changing oil, and replacing brake pads.

I have always found that they key to being a good DIY'er is enjoying doing that sort of thing. If you hate it you're most likely never going to be good at it. There are things I hate to do that I know if I forced myself I could do them, but I just refuse because I hate them so.

Several years ago I wanted to have a couch and a chair I loved re-upholstered. I had some quotes done and the prices were outlandish. I found a trade school nearby that offered a course on upholstery at night for $250.00. I took the course and then re-upholstered both the pieces and they looked great. And I've done several other pieces of the years as well as some pieces for friends. that $250.00 course has saved me thousands of dollars over the years.

My tool box consists of a hammer and a butter knife...

I suck at doing home projects....
I would rather work ovetime and hire it done

Oops! There's me thinking you meant.. you know... do-it-yourself, but you really mean do-it-yourself, don't you? Life is so confusing sometimes. I'm not really that good at this gay thing: I can't always work out what people mean, if they are using code words or if they are being straight (and no pun intended).:(

I love doing things myself. I've retiled my entire house, I love working on cars, I've rebuilt an entire motor by hand, I love building computers, I'm a jack of all trades, but a master of none. That is the best way to describe myself and what I do. I love electrical work, I like to work with plumbing.

I would say pretty damn good seeing as we do not have gobs of money to hire out work.

With that said I did make a major F-up on a window. See the window was not sealed with caulk when it was put in and all sorts or bugs were making their homes behind the trim and dropping their mess onto the sill. Well I wiped out the caulk and seal the entire window, put the trim back.

Later I found out I seal/glued the bottom of the window shut!](*,) There is a lip under the lip to open the window, I did not know this at the time. LOL. So I need to try and cut it free and I have no idea on how to do it.

You can borrow my hammer and butter knife!!!!

LOL

I am pretty good. I can do any job around the house. From building to plumbing and tiling.

I am good with cars to. I have just completely restored a 1859 220S Mercedes. To night was the first night me and my b/f went to a restuarant in it.

I'm a complete failure. Well, for MOST things that are more complicated than changing a light bulb. My father, on the other hand, was the total opposite. He could do anything. (Where's heredity when you need it???)

I can fix a lot of things, but when it comes to constructing something out of nothing or completely redoing a space, I'm a little less confident. Though I could probably do it.

I want to be. Some one said you have to want to do it and you can be good. Well I want to do it more than anything, and I try. In the end I have to have everything redone cause it turns out looking like crap.

I am a good idea man, have great design ideas, but just do not have the correct gene to actaully do all the work.

I do everything EXCEPT plumbing.

Calling the plumber is cheaper than calling the plumber and also repairing my fuckups...

I'm pretty decent, and what I can't do, my brother and father can.

Well, I have always been our family's DIY maven, until recently!

You see my Partner in his infinite wisdom of Mr. Do Gooder, gave my big tool box away with ALL my amassed tools over the years! He gave my tool box with ALL my tools away to the plumber who was replacing our water-heater!

I kid you NOT!

I dunno; but I was getting ready to replace something in the house and went looking for the proverbial "tool-box", searched and searched, high and low, deep and wide without finding my "baby"! I asked Ron, hon, have you seen my tool box, you know the big sears, bright red tool box where I keep ALL my house-hold tools?

Well, he had this funny look, you know the look like someone just sucker-punched him in the stomach and he has that queezy feeling like he's gonna throw up......look?

He asked me to stay calm........uh, just sit down Roger and be perfectly calm, OK?

Well, hells bells, any fool could see, any fool could guess that whatever the love of my life was gonna say, would surely cause me such distress that our love and friendship...........even, might be at stake here!!! (NO LOL!!)

Well hon, you see, we had the plumber here to replace that old hot water heater and he was so nice and all, I thought I would give him that tool box that always just sits in the garage all the time gathering dust!!

Well, I took a deep breath, I exhaled that breath..........hell, I even counted to 20...........twice!

Then, I just walked out the door, got in the car and drove and drove and drove for about an hour and then returned home!!!

Yes, I took my cell phone with me and YES, Ron called me; but with the handy ID feature, I knew who was calling; but NO, I did NOT answer the love of my life's call...............NO!

Well, after I let all that steam outta my system, I returned home.......and the first thing Ron asked me was, where did you go? I just went on a drive to clear the cob-webs outta my brain......but I feel better now.......and I'm sorry that I did NOT answer your calls; but I just needed some time to think things out!!!

NO! I did NOT yell! NO! I did NOT accuse! I did NOT scream!! I did NONE of the things most civil people do when they lose thousands of dollars in tools he's accumulated over the years!!

NO! Alls I do when Ron wants me to fix something around the house.....I just say........"call your plumber friend........ya know, the one you gave ALL my tools to" He can fix your whatever!

Hey! I think I even threw up when I was out on my one hour drive.....away from the love of my life!!(*8*) (*8*)

PS: .............and this folks is one reason why we continue to stay friends and lovers for over 26 years!!:sex: *|*
