You lost me. How is it ghetto? Sure, socks and sandales/flip flops often don't match the style of your clothes, but it seems to me it's just ...sandles and socks. They're often more comfortable with socks, damn close to a pair of slippers. Is ghetto the new word for comfort that no one informed me of? I'm always the last to know....

it all depends where you from. Now it is in style but only for adidas and nikes sandals lol

I used to wear them all the time in high school. When I started college 4 years ago, I stopped wearing them. I dunno why. I mean, I do wear them if I have to work in the yard, go to the beach, or run a very quick errand. But never to school, the mall, public, etc. I feel like if you're going to dress sloppy anyways, at least put some shoes on! I'm reminded of Victoria Beckham, who almost always wears heels and rarely tennis shoes/flip-flops. It's a decency thing for me.

I have ONE pair of them, and they look similar to those Adidas ones in the picture.

I only wear them if I'm going to take the garbage out, or go into the garage or workshop and don't feel like getting metal slivers in my feet.

Other than that I can't stand them.

I live on the beach, I live in the land of perpetual summer, and I wear flip-flops every day. I've got a nice faux-leather pair with a cushy bottom and just love them.

I have bad knees and they don't give me enough support. Although I like them because I hate hate hate wearing socks. Irritates my leg/foot hair.

I hate when I see gays walking around with a button up shirt, fancy jeans, and flipflops. Jeans and flipflops is already awkward, but when you're obviously like dressed to impress in your nice button up shirt and then you just switch to casual half-way down with some flip-flops, you look like a fool.

Well, this is certainly a semi-heated topic. To the OP: I promise, it's very possible to look hot without wearing a pair of thong flipflops.

I usually buy one pair for a summer and they're usually worn out by the end. For me, they're not so much about fashion as they are about my feet breathing and about me being able to remove my shoes as easily as possible. Once it reaches about 50 degrees consistently I stop wearing them altogether until the next summer.

As far as feet getting dirty in them, especially in a city, it happens. So? Wash your feet. I personally like to wear shoes as little as possible and can frequently be seen walking around simply carrying my sandals with me, even in the city.

FLIP- FLOPS - or by their proper name "slippas" are a PURELY REGIONAL THING -- in HAWAII they are REQUIRED footwear for almost EVERYWHERE. you have a pair for "in da house" and a several pair for "outside".. even in non-Japanese houses in Hawaii - shoes are RARELY - if EVER worn indoors - they are left at the door - and in that case you enter "in socks" - or park the slippas and go barefoot from there...
Those ADDIDAS - pictured above are NOT SLIPPAS-- they do not have the "strap" for beween your toes -- that is a bona-fide requirement for slippas-- see illustration below:

Just because they are not popular in some areas - and some Countries - they certainly are commonplace in ALL beachfront communities that i have visited -- probably more so on the west coast than the east -
When i went to public school -- shoes were not required until the 8th grade. Barefoot was the preferred way to go -- only a few resturants had signs prohibiting "bare feet" (in the old days) . and one movie theater - which was way too hibrow for the suburban kids.
