  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

Do you agree transgender/sexual having their own restroom?

I've never heard of trans restrooms, but I have heard of single-occupancy gender-neutral restrooms. They're not just for trans people, but they do provide a way for trans people to avoid the discomfort of being perceived as using the "wrong" restroom. They're also good for people like me, who don't like to poop with other people in the room.

Seriously. I started to think Im also the same like that.
When Im in public restroom. I hold my gas and my launch until whenever someone done flushing/ turning up the sink...so my noise masked with the environment cuz tbh.. It's fairly embarrassing :(

The UC Berkeley dorm bathrooms have been gender co-ed since years before I went there.

After about 1 week, it's no longer the fact that the bathrooms are co-ed that is shocking. It's the fact that anyone ever thought it would be any big deal.

If you just ask Americans about the idea cold and on the spot, sure, I'm sure the great majority would say "no we're not ready." Kinda like they said about a black President.

It is the same at my University here in Amsterdam and it's funny how quickly you stop noticing it. As long as everyone keeps the toilets clean and what not I don't care.

As long as they're clean and there are urinals so there isn't an almighty queue of people with their legs crossed like there is coming out of the ladies' at every single mall, stadium and airport I've ever been in, I don't care what they do with the restrooms.

Smells like segregation to me.

I agree, after "transition", why a "guy" cannot use the males, and a "female" use the ladies is beyond me. These people, have undergone many years of assessment to finally become their "true" self.
Do you honestly think that they would be happy entering a restroom marked "Transgender only?" As they view themselves as now either
male or female, and not a person who has undergone Gender Re-assignment.

Transmen an cismen shoul use the same restrooms. Transwomen and ciswomen should use the same restrooms. Or we should end gendered pissing.

I don't think trans people want toilets for them alone, but I do think they can feel scared and worried to be outed when they use the toilets of their choice. Safety is key in it.
I think gender neutral toilets are the way forwards as it just completely removes any problems. People are happy to share toilets with people of all genders at home, so why should we care when its in public.

I agree with this, however the question was: Do you agree transgender/sexual having their own restroom. I agree on gender-neutral facilities.

The real governor in the rate of change to gender neutral bathrooms will be the lifespan of commercial restrooms. Renovating bathrooms is expensive, and merely changing the name on the men's room doesn't accomplish the goal.

Actually changing the name does accomplish it!

There were a couple of gay bars in Calgary that had men's rooms and women's rooms and they were just used by everybody. In fact they didn't even bother changing the names.

The desire for privacy, and gender segregation, is not tantamount to bigotry. Civil rights and commode rights are hugely different.

Oh lord, Deja. There's no need for a conniption. I did not say that gender separated bathrooms are bigotry. The purpose of the comparison was to point out that the fact that the idea of coed bathrooms may seem shocking or "something we're not ready for" to Americans asked cold about the idea in no way signifies something that would actually cause any substantial shockwave in society were it to change-- rather like the concept of having a black or female President. People's perception of the effects of the change are vastly larger than they actually would be. And I can say this from firsthand experience of using coed bathrooms where 100% of the population around me also used them, and it was no big deal to me or to anyone else there, despite being an uncomfortable prospect on day 1 after a complete lifetime of gender separated bathrooms.

So yeah... you had a fit over nothing.

Thanks for posting this thread. It points up a non-issue. Men and women in our culture have segregated public toilet facilities.
Dunno even know why that is, but it is. If I am a male, by whatever path, I should use the male toilet. Women of whatever stripe should use the female toilet. OR...we could segregate toilets by orientation....queer/straight or skin color with five or six different sets of facilities required. This is so dumb. Why would anyone care if some trans guy is at the urinal or on the can? I am ashamed that I took the time to think about it.

I bet with a lever and a bit of fiddlin' they can make a bathroom stall that goes to the floor, and when it needs to be cleaned y'reach inside to the bathroom stall wall and pull the lever up to mop. Flip it when you're done, comes down again. I can't figure out how to do the same thing with a door, though. Then again, went to school for mechanics, not architecture. Ah well. Dreams.

I also want a mop like a roomba.

For the first part: expense and maintenance. No facility likes adding more moving parts that can break and need repair. On top of that, anything with recessed spaces, like a housing for that lever, is going to get dirt and then bacteria, which means another cleaning issue.

For the bolded -- I was thinking the same thing. I bet a mop-bot could be built that's only 15cm high.

If privacy was handled properly there is no problem wit co-ed rest rooms. The problem comes that woman seem to use the restroom a lot more then men, and stay longer. If you have ever been to a stadium rock concert, airport, or sports event notice the fucking line at the Ladies room with the same amount of facilities as mens? Often at these events the woman can't hold it and do use the mens room. Of course the Ladies facilities have no urinals.
Also woman rest rooms can be disgusting, as can mens this is a generalization I realize. One of my first jobs was lot~n~lobby at McDonalds. At 16 I quickly discovered how gross it was cleaning a used tampon toss about on the tile walls in the Ladies room. Very vividly you don't forget a wet blood clot stained white tile wall with the smell of Big Mac grease and putrid rest room auto timed air freshener.
Most Gay bars are gender neutral that I have been to with mixed results. If the drag queens take `em over you can't get them out for checking cocks and snorting coke.

^In some of the "classier" gay bars I've been to, one bathroom was for doing your business, and the other was for fucking...

When I worked at the county fairgrounds, one job no one wanted was cleaning the women's restrooms -- they were just filthy. Finally one of the guys came up with the best way to do it: once the grounds closed for the night, he rolled out the nearby fire hose and effectively pressure-washed every surface, washing everything into the middle of the room, where there was a big drain. Once the water had drained away, the heap in the middle could be shoveled. Then we re-cleaned with hoses, pressure nozzles, and disinfectant sprays.

In the men's rooms, it was just sweep and spot-wipe.

The director at another facility I worked maintenance at for a few months got smart when they remodeled the facility: he both expanded the women's rooms by a quarter and added generic rooms in formerly unused space. It didn't end the long lines for the women's rooms, but it sure made them shorter.

How about just have 3 restrooms?

Biological Male

Biological Female

And a 3rd with just a silhouette of a commode.

Anyone who doesn’t fit in the fit either of the 2 descriptions, including parents with children, or people who don't care can use the third.
