This sounds like obfuscation to me, casting doubt just for the sake of it.

It isn't. The octopus did not, to our knowledge, experience some abrupt evolutionary leap in intelligence in the past couple of centuries. Yet only in the past few decades has our estimation of its intelligence jumped as we developed new methods for actually trying to measure or test it.

By your logic, the octopus never had any intelligence of any degree until these more recent studies, after all if it had, we would have recognized it.

That does not change the fact that they are not self aware or think abstractly, for example, value placement.

No, which was not my position. It was in regards to the earlier response where it was claimed offhandedly that if any aliens did exist they necessarily would have communicated with us. With of course our sole range of communication being either verbal or symbolic communication, such as might come via a radio signal. So far as we know we can't communicate via scent signals, chemical interactions, telepathy or other methods we may not even be aware of.

That's bull. You're now effectively claiming a form of omniscience. Given that our understanding of various animal behaviors are simply hypotheses which are being endlessly revised and refined, you simply stating you can look at any behavior and make a snap judgment about whether intelligence is behind it or what degree of intelligence is behind it is simple posturing. There's neither no way for it to be true nor for you to prove it is.

LOL Then why did you ask

It was a rhetorical question to illustrate the silliness of claiming that intelligence is something simple, discrete and easily measurable. I did not seriously expect you to claim omniscience that you can look at any behavior by any life form on earth and easily identify what mental processes prompt it. The attempt to be able to do that even with just humans remains ongoing. You speak as if this is a set and settled science.

by the strict definition, obviously unidentified flying objects exist.

while I do believe that alien life may exist out there somewhere in the universe, though, I don't believe that the aliens are visiting earth, kidnapping farmers, and turning cows inside out.

I don't think the wording of this poll makes any sense. While I believe that life may exist outside of our solar system (or even on another planet or moon in our solar system) I don't think what people call UFOs constitute any sort of evidence of being visited by aliens.

There is no wording in the poll whatsoever. UFO means Unidentified Flying Object. My mistake that I didn't use proper term to ask my question: "Do you believe the truth is out there or simply: Do you believe in Aliens?"

Although you can counter argue that UFO means unorganic flying object but if you wanna do a favor, go ahead and talk about UFO to common people out there. Can you separate ALiens from UFO entirely from human's mind? I dont think so [-X

However this poll already a mess #-o, maybe because it was got setup as skeptical from the first replier  then everyone jumps the wagon.

If you google Rendleshem Forest or Pendlesham Forest UFO Dec 1980, there is some fascinating audio made by the US Base commander and a detail of Air Force Security Police.
Who two nights in a row witnessed a UFO, which they initially thought was a downed aircraft, on arriving at the scene, they discovered
a "craft" hovering, then landing.
This Colonel was so concerned, he actually made a report to the MOD in London.

question a is no a is ufo
but why a ufo no wanna cum here
* rest classfied *
ooh rest time

thankyou

Before when i have less knowledge i do believe ....
but now i don't believe and i demand evidence for everything.

Absolutely.

But I don't believe there is any extraterrestrial explanation. As a philosophical and mathematical consideration, I don't believe higher life exists outside Earth within a zone that would enable contact between galaxies. It is imaginative. It is consoling. But it is a fiction.

Unidentified? Most certainly.

Absolutely what ? believe or not ?

I believe in extraterrestrial life (at least in some manner). But I don't have any specific opinions on whether or not they've visited us.

I'm convinced now, more than ever, that aliens are here...

Is believing in UFOs and believing in the existence of extraterrestrial life the same thing?

I don't believe in the stories that some people are taken away in a ship and all that but I do think there are aliens in some way or another.
