Do you feel guilty when you don't recycle

I don't because I am doing natural recycling by not having children so I'm just like whatevz...if people want a better future for their children just get sterilized and don't have any.

uh not really. Tap water is actually more regulated than bottled water.

Recycling was kind of thrown onto me a few years ago when the city required that anyone using the city garbage service start recycling. It was annoying at first sorting stuff out, but now I'm used to it.
There are times though when I just don't feel like doing it and toss recyclables into the regular garbage...and when I do I feel slightly guilty.

Well, I guess it's a matter of where you live and how you've been raised, I think it's a cultural thing. I travel quite a lot for business reasons and I can definately say that in Europe we tend to recycle much more than other countries and this is particularly true for the northern part of Europe. Anyway the whole EU is really into recycling and taking care of the environment. I can't see myself throwing a can or any plactic box into the wrong trash!! I just can't!! On the other hand when I am in the States I see that there is so little concern about this matter.. and I'm quite disappointed by that: The States are such a big and important country and I think they should set a good example to other nations with less power and less social awareness. Not to mention that they produce so much trash and they could easily reduce it!

Oh well, still I'm in love with America!

of course i do, and i think everyone who's familiar with the concept should, and i think that those who are and don't care have a narrow view of life in general, as in human life, universal life. people here saying that they don't care about recycling or any other form are looking dumb, if they are aware of the consequences.

i really hope you're joking DJ1990, otherwise, i think people like you are useless in this world. and i can tell your thinking with a 'hot body' instead of a smart head. but if you don't care about being useless, enjoy you emptyness!

Sometimes I get in recycling mode,and other times I can't be bothered.Especially when the city hassles me because I dont have the newspapers tied up properly and they leave them on the curb.They go right into the garbage after that.

This is one of the stupidest threads I've read.

Anyone who doesn't recycle and is somehow proud of the fact seriously has some mental issues to sort out.

Frankly, it is appalling to hear children whine about what is wrong with the world and then not even demonstrate the least intention to do something about it.

We have a 98% re-cycling at home and in my firm.

Not re-cycling at work brings a reprimand and a fine.

It's pretty simple in my house, one trash can for trash the other for recyclables, very little effort and id imagine we reduce trash by atleast 1/2 maybe even more.

Actually it is not something you should do *sometimes*.. recycling is not a mode or a mood you're in.. it should be a way of life. It should be part of your everyday behaviour as a conscious civilized human being. Only so, it will come easy and natural to you.

It is useless to be shocked or scared only when we see those terrible images of the oil blowout in TV or start thinking about the problem only when sesasional disastars happen.. You should care everyday. A Nation whose people do not recycle creates even more damages of that damn oil blowout.

It's the way we live, it's how much we care. This makes the difference. One thing leads to the other. From throwing a can into the wrong trash to a big environmental disaster, like that enormous amount of oil in the Atlantic, the step is incredibly short. It's a matter of thinking differently.

A video which appeared on JUB recently mentioned that, in the United States alone, the number of water bottles used in one year, if placed end to end, would encircle the earth 5 times. . . and most of those bottles end up in landfill.

It has to stop.

Every time I go out shopping, I pick up the empty bottles and cans I see, and water bottles outnumber the pop cans by 3 to 1.

I recycle everything I can and I would be ashamed to admit that I was too lazy or didn't care enough to do it.

Your 'Not having children' isn't doing your part for a cleaner world. A better one, maybe, but certainly not a cleaner one.

My understanding is that plastic #1 (PETE) does not hold up well with repeated use. Various substances you don't want in your body are released. (I don't remember the technical details). Those PETE bottles used for selling bottled water are not meant for refilling, or at least not more than a few times. Polypropylene is good (#5). Stay away from polycarbonate (lexan). That's the hard but sturdy plastic they used to promote for camping and sports. It doesn't have it's own number, but it shares #7. Now they find it releases BPAs. The big 5 gallon water cooler bottles are also made of this, unfortunately. You can get stainless steel bottles, but they're from China.

Everything possible down to composting. I'm not convinced it makes a difference, though. It's probably a quixotic gesture.

Not having children is a huge plus for the environment. Polluting and wasting are inescapable characteristics of life, at least in an industrialized society.
