  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you feel guilty when you don't recycle

So where does most thrash in America end up?
In landfills?
Why?
Wouldn't it be easier to build skyscrapers made of something cute...and then just bring the thrash in there and burn it...like a huge oven...hmm?
Why drive it so far..just build huge oven buildings and burn it in there. No windows on them....just burn it.
Burn it.

No,

I see the recycle truck come to my building, big truck with forks, dumps all the bins in the same container in the back..with the regular garbage.

I think they want us to think we are doing something by washing some of our crap.

If they are the same style trucks my city uses, the garbage and recycling bins are emptied into the same truck (to save fuel costs), but within the truck there are two separate compartments. The program started two years ago and has reduced the waste going to the landfill substantially.

Apparently incineration to power is happening in China. The garbage is incinerated at such hi.gh temperatures that there is little toxin released to the, and energy is generated for consumption. This may be the way to go in other regions too.

Well, I actually never answered the question the OP posed in his thread title... ;)

So, no, I don't feel guilty when I don't recycle...because I actually always DO recycle! :D

It just irks me that for all intensive purposes, I'm most likely wasting my time doing so...
Very good then!(*8*)I'll be quiet now.;)

Usually and it has become a habit. Like when I keep paper which still has one clean side for printing/writing/wrapping purposes or photocopy on both sides of paper.

You probably buy bottled water all the time, too.

I live in Edmonton, where recycling is a religion.

We just throw all of our recyclables (cans, jars, bottles, cardboard, newspapers, mail, whatever) in a bag, and the city pays people to sort it out at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.

In addition to recycling blue bags, they process standard garbage as well to extract compostables. In total 60% of our waste is "diverted" from landfill, and we are a world-leading centre of expertise.

And I suspect Penn & Teller are right.
