I think the personal touches are probably about as harmless as any PDA in a public place meant for open discussion. Mostly harmless, but not totally, sometimes cringey, often enough exclusionary.

I know they create a pleasurable sense of friendship amongst the users, but I don't see a benefit to the broader community.

For the most part, we're not writing personal notes to one another, but offering up our thoughts for everybody to respond to.

I'm not sure I give too many fucks about this issue, though, as compared to, say, the thoughtless bigotries that so many JUBbins revel in.
 
I have no problem with it and I have no problem with people calling me by my usual used name or nickname. I prefer only a few people refer to me as my legal name and even then I prefer they don't, but I give them a pass.
