Being in "Outland" has been a learning experience for me. I still haven't done much of the gay scene. The only pattern I've changed is that when see a hot guy, I don't hide it from my friends. I'm still not out at work, and I haven't told my mom. For the most part my friends know that I am out. I even made the change on my Facebook and Myspace. I was uncomfortable seeing the word "gay" at first but I realized that people don't give a damn, and if they do, none of them have come up to me and ask.

So here's the deal, I haven't made any gay male friends. I haven't gone to any gay bars so my experienced the gay world has been limited. I did go to a drag show with a lesbian friend of mine, I had fun and enjoyed the night.

My buddies have been great. Nothing has changed and I still hang and do the same things we did before I came out. But the other day for the first time I felt out of place. My friend had a bbq for the innaguration it was a boys night out. There was beer drinking, smoking from the hookah, and the usual. We were watching tv when an esurance commercial came on, it was some guy with cheesy acting. One of my friends said, " that's so gay". I guess everyone realized what he had said, everyone got quiet and well to break the akwardness I said, " that's an insult even to gay people, I don't think we are capable of such bad acting". Everybody started laughing and things went back to normal.

So do guys get offended when people say, "that's gay" or my favorite "no homo" Ive been countering that one buy saying "no hetero", people seek to get a kick out of that one.

...So do guys get offended when people say, "that's gay" or my favorite "no homo" ...

Yes, yes, yes & yes & I bite my upper, lower, middle, in-between & all-around lip..............

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I don't get offended at all.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

It doesn't get me too angry, but it does strike a very annoyed tone with me. So I confront them about it and they back off... I always counter it with a smartass remark to make them feel stupid for it too. :)

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I know I've been playing too much WoW when that first sentence threw me.

lulz. it threw me too #-o

Sometimes I do get annoyed. I feel out of place in this thread but yeah it can get obnoxious but I usually don't say anything.

^ And I also hate when friends who know I'm gay look at me like I need comforting or something. I'm a big boy I can handle it. Ugh. Wutever.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I tune it out for the most part but I am offended when I hear it come from those who know I'm gay

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

It didn't use to, I don't know what happened. But I get all pissed of when someone says that these days.
It's weird because I used to do it all the time, but I suddenly feel bad every time I do it or if someone else says it.
Just want to smash their face up...

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

^Yeah that happened to me too. Just a few months ago. It was like a light switch turned on in me and I hated anyone who said it.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Maybe it's because I hit 20 recently.
I guess we're growing up :/

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

It can be annoying but I just ask em how they would know and if they have a secret life of picking gay boy up and taking them home for a little relief.

Or perhaps when your friend says "that's gay" wait till he does something dumb change it around and tell him "that's so hetero".

You will be surprised how quickly they will get offended and change their behaviour.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I don't particularly enjoy the term, but I don't freak out when people say it. With my friends, I couldn't care less if they say it. But, if it's a coworker or someone, I always ask: "When you say 'gay', what part of it is an adjective?''.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

No. I don't care what people say, 90% of the time they're not even referring to homosexuals...it's just a word.

And I use it from time to time - why, because it means nothing.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I don't get offended, but if do get annoyed after a while.

Sure it does. When ppl say that they refer to something they don't like and there is nothing negative about being gay. Nobody goes around saying "that's so crippled grandmother" or "that's so nig***" so why do they feel the need to say "gay". I'm sure everyone is smart enough to think of another word to UAE when they think something is stupid.

Some of my younger friend's friends are now saying the phrase in this tone "That's so ghey!" Apparently in this manner they are not offending gay people. I don't know. I don't like to hear it. It's not a joke. It's not fun. If the people that said it only knew what we have to go through somedays just to survive, maybe they'd have alittle more respect.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Well, it doesnt really offend me, because usually, "thats gay" just means that something is lame. it's just a change of language. Maybe in the beginning someone really tried to insult homosexuals with it, but i bet my ass that at least 4/5 of the people using this phrase dont even think about dissing homosexuals while they say "thats gay!"
Language changes all the time…its natural.

Plus, sometimes, even as a gay person, the really big queens among us annoy me.
Straight people dont greet themselves with "Hey, i like pussy!", so I dont think its any gay persons call to rub his sexuality under everyones nose…

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Not really. It's one of those things that says more about the speaker than about what he's talking about. :)

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

There's a saying where I come from, that goes "gay as owt"..or translation, "gay as anything". Most lads use it and it has nothing to do with homosexuality, it's just what you say when something shit happens or someone does something.

I couldn't agree more. And I think saying 'that's so gay' is as discriminatory as saying 'that's nigger' or things like that. The bad thing is that joking about gays seems to be socially accepted.
