Do you get offended when people say "That's gay"??

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I dislike the "That's so gay" expression.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

^^I totally agree with you. Cracking a joke about gays is way more acceptable than a joke about black people and fried chicken (im being serious). people take the situation so lightly, and you might say that they dont mean anything by it, but that itself is kind of an insult.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Not really, but most of my friends know that saying it invites my snarky, sarcastic, and sometimes graphic wrath.

(i. e. someone says that "this store is gay", I give examples of HOW it could be gay and proceed to make them uncomfortable)

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I dont get offended. I mean i still use the term... like "Thats so gay dude!" i mean it was a lil weird at first but ive said it before and it dosent bother the people around me, i mean what is there to get upset about..?

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Doesn't bother me at all, I honestly don't think that the majority of people who use the phrase even think about it any more therefore it doesn't really hold any anti homosexual connotations.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I don't find it offensive really... but then again, I've been chewed out by my mom for using "that's (so) retarded" since she used to teach special ed.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Before "That's so gay" it used to be "That's so queer." Connotations are the same and both are insulting to me.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

maybe if i just say, "that's so spic" enough times then maybe people wont think about it anymore...

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

well I actually don't get offended about that! Why get offended!?
I do say it though! I even say "Ay! No Gay shit" but I say that when like I say I love you to my friends or sit next to him real close! they too say it to each other! its funny!

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I don't take it personally but I tell people to stop doing it. One of my friends (straight guy) is trying to stop doing it because he knows I don't like it. He called someone a fag when he was drunk but felt really bad and apologized to me the next day. He's hispanic so I explained to him that saying that kind of stuff would be like me saying "That guy's such a spic" or whatever.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I don't mind, although it can get very annoying if overused. Sometimes when my straight friends say "that's gay", I respond "Does that mean it's awesome? Since I'm gay and awesome." Then we laugh.

Also sometimes you have to use the phrase. How else are you going to describe a fanny pack?

You made me lol:rotflmao:

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

It somewhat aggravates me. One of my new roommates who doesn't yet know I'm gay (all my other roommates do) calls things gay sometimes. I sigh in a somewhat annoyed way and go on with the day. I'll tell him soon enough.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

my response is typically "did you see it in a gay bar kissing a __(insert whatever was called gay here)__ on the mouth? i mean, if you didn't, how do YOU know it's gay? if you did... well, i'd just wonder what you were doing in that gay bar."

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

It depends on the context and subtext. When you've done something fabulous and taken exquisite care in presenting it, "...so gay" coming from a friend, or small friendly group can be a compliment. When it's intended to mean "weak" or "inadequate," and is shouted in front of a large group of non-friends, it's an insult.

It will soon, I was like that too... It's just stupid and it feels like living in denial...
Like trying to be one of the straight crowd.
I don't say that anymore, and I pissed of when someone else says it.
Just wanna jam my fist in their face and see their teeth fall of.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Someone once said that in my presense and I replied,"Why, did it give you a blowjob you enjoyed?" He got SOOO red in the face (we were around a bunch of other people and he didn't like the implication that he enjoyed gay sex). Needless to say, nobody who overheard us let him live it down and he is a little more respectful (at least openly) of different views and lifestyles.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Ive been countering that one buy saying "no hetero", people seek to get a kick out of that one.

Yay I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses the "no hetero" comment lol but personally I'm not offended by it I think it's lost its meaning to be offensive towards gays and honestly he just let it slip and didn't mean to be offensive.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

Am not offended its not said directly at me so i dont mind.

But i do wornder why people use the word gay in that way

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

I don't find it derogatory in the least. In fact, I've said it myself. It's just an expression. I don't take it personally.

Ths one I like is when someone says 'You think that is gay?' and I reply 'Why, are you interested?' Shuts them up pretty quick.

Re: Do you get offended when people say "That's ga

In my logical mind, I always wonder why they aren't saying, "That's so straight" since I can't think of anything more boring and ordinary than the average straight person.
