I went to my doctor to have him examine a spot about the size of a nickle that is on my forehead, it has grown a lot in the past few months. I was told that it is probably basal cell carcinoma. They plan on doing a biopsy and then a removal. I was told that it will leave a scar about the size of a quarter. Right now the only scars I have are from hernia repair. I do have another on my elbow from stitches that I received when I was 15. I told the doc. that I hated to mess up my face, he said if I didn't get this taken care of that I could lose a lot of my face. So, this week we will get the biopsy.

So, how would you feel about having a scar on your face, would it bother you?

My face is free of scars, but I think a small dueling or fencing scar on my cheek would be hot. I know exactly where it should be.

No I don't think it would bother me. Especially since I could just cover it up with make-up if I felt inclined.
I do have a scar on my right knee from when I fell and slipped underneath a barrier on the stairs so hard it burst the skin open.

About a year a friend of mine had mohs surgery (Google it) on her face in the area between her eyebrows. Went to one of the doctors who pioneered the surgery while her husband, a noted plastic surgeon, watched. Physician kept probing deeper and deeper and the surgery took around five hours. (They broke for lunch!) I saw her a couple of days later. The scar was v-shaped and very neat. Impressively so. A number of weeks afterward she had laser (?--I've forgotten, maybe it was done by other means) planing on her entire face. Today the scar is undetectable, at least to me. I know a plastic surgeon who specializes in scar revision. He tells me it's important to figure out a plan asap after surgery to minimize the appearance of the scars. Said that properly executed and then treated, incisions on the face can heal to be close to invisible.

Scar on my belly from a hernia as a kid.
Mild Circumcision scar.

That’s it

No, I don't have scars, but I do have a couple of small spots on my cheek that I've had for years but might be getting a little larger. I might consider having them looked at. If it is medically important to get them removed I would rather do that then take chances.

I think facial scars bother most people.
I do think medicine has advanced and most scars are minimal. You might be able to use some concealer
To hide the scar. I'd ask more questions and request to see pics of patients that have had similar surgeries.

Come to think of it, when I was in my mid-twenties I developed some pre-cancerous skin lesions under my eyes--occupational hazard for surfers and swimmers I was told. They were zapped away and after a week of being black and blue I was back to normal with no scars. I suppose if I hadn't done anything about them I would have had more serious problems. A lesson to be learned: get to a dermatologist when you see observe lingering abnormalities.

Main scar goes nearly all the way round my right index finger. The result of it getting it stuck in a mangle.

I have a scar from an appendectomy and a scar from a being shot in the arm while I was in a war zone but its not that nocticable!

I have many from when I use to work. The biggest being on my fore arm.

I do have a small one on my head where a horn was removed. And yes that kind of horn. It is more common than you think.

The back of my right wrist has a two inch line, a souvenir from almost losing my right hand in a factory accident that happened when I was in my 20's. I looked down and saw the blue cast of my right radius bone. It didn't hurt that much, but obviously alarmed me. I immediately clamped by left hand to it to stanch bleeding before it began, and therefore didn't bleed much while I went to get help.

As to your scar. Yes, it would bother me greatly, especially near the front. You need to tell yourself that it is worth it, worth staying alive. Don't look at it in the mirror often, and don't let others stare at it when talking to you.

My great grandfather died at 91 and had a large cancer that extended from his right temple down his jawbone. I don't think it is what killed him, but he was out of it by then. Don't let this one grow further. (*8*)

If it helps, start wearing a cap to cover it or a cap with a bill to make it less obvious. You will need a coping strategy with it being on your forehead.

Only the ones on my heart

I'm a vet and have some, luckily I don't have any burn scars, I know a lot of guys that do. I think scars add to our life experience and should be part of what makes us, US!

I do have many that are not visible btw

It is too bad that you have gone this long without your doc taking notice of it.

I had a basal cell carcinoma removed this past year by a surgeon who is so specialized in this that the resulting scar is virtually invisible.

Get it removed. the alternative is not pretty.

For those on this side of The Pond, a 'mangle' is a wringer machine to wring out wet clothes. (Nora Batty had one.)

I have two small puncture scars behind my right knee where a dog bit me.

I have a foot-long scar laterally (horizontally) on my left side, just under the rib cage.

A kidney, which was cancerous (but at Stage One), was fully removed in 2003. The cancer was discovered very early, and by sheer accident (or, in my case, I believe probable Providence).

Left hand pinky almost cut off with a meat cleaver....

Left leg above knee cut bad crawling through a window....

Right index finger sliced bad with a chefs knife...

Right leg shot with a 22 rifle...

A scar on one's face can look dashing. Just depends.

I think the only scars I have are from childhood vaccinations.
