  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you have white teeth?

Is it bad I haven't been to the dentist in 3 years? I brush 2 a day and chew gum. My teeth are still normal coloured.

Nope - I stopped going about the same amount of time ago. The dentists just took the money and said they were fine and I left. It was a pretty big rip off. If I have any problems I would go straight away; but I don't, so I won't. I take the same line with going to the doctor as well, and I have not been for years.

They're white enough for me. I get them cleaned at the dentist at least once every year and brush and floss religiously.

There are numerous bad sites on the web that half-heartedly address the trope of bad Brit dental appearances, but one stood out by having a diverse range of views (primarily British) describe the contrast between America and Britain. The insights are helpful if one is interested, and hardly any of them touch upon Prince Phillip's indiscretions.

A couple of commenters' posts are below as intriguing examples.

Whereas the barb at the OP was indeed a barb since he thrives on provoking reactions in his threads, .

But what you're trying to prove means nothing to me. Even if this is true, I don't really care because if they want teeth like this, that's fine. I choose not to.

I don't think it's just us Brits with "bad teeth", just we are the biggest offender in the anglophone world. I actually think our teeth are fairly standard of the world, and that only the US, Canada and (it seems) Australia are so caught up on their teeth.

middle class families who all got braces. It was a serious marker of class status.

Correctly. When I was growing up in a very Americanised European country, it was so to say standard to have braces as an middle class child. But I didn't need braces, and in deed, many couldn't believe that my teeth are so naturally straight.

It was probably my generation in the UK that were the first to start getting braces (people born mid 80s-early 90s), but it was pretty much just the middle class with private dentists trying to sell something. Now though, every teenager I see has them. Not entirely sure why though? Teeth stay pretty straight naturally, only under stress will they start to fuck up - like wisdom teeth.

I think I am just highly sceptical of dentists - they insist on regular visits beyond any other profession and mostly just tell you you are fine and bill you. If my doctor insisted I go every year from my birth to my death for a check up I would laugh at them, but at least there I would not have to pay to be told I am fine!

It seems that it follows the regularities of fashion:
First the upper class adopts a certain fashion, then the middle class, finally the working class.

BTW: since fake eye-glasses exist, I wouldn't be surprised if fake braces would exist too^^

There's no need for you to reintroduce your baseless, slanderous allegations here.

My barb at the OP was entirely about the graceless phrasing of his dichotomy

It's fine, however, this part here proves that it was more a personal attack on me than anything else. He's just looking for a slip up (the slightest reason) to use an attack against me because he doesn't particularly like me posting on JUB.

I'm not really offended by his posts even though he does keep trying to bring more into that small remark in the OP. I tend to take it on the chin and not react to his attacks the way he had hoped for.

Race is irrelevant ....but teeth are white now. Went to the dentist.
