  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you mind this on the beach ??

Oh Christ.

Will people just leave it the fuck alone.

I don't care what people want to wear on the beach.

Wear a sheet.

Wear a burqa.

Wear a bikini.

Wear nothing.

Wear a g-string.

Wear burqa (board) shorts.

Wear a banana hammock.

Wear barbed wire and a smile.

Just wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

For fuck's sake.

As long as you have a choice and can exercise it without fear. Otherwise we have a situation.

So what? I don't give a flying fuck if they wear it.

The argument is that it symbolizes, participates in, and sets up a value system within French society that is counter to the country's secular liberalism. This value system is considered one of the bases of Islamic radicalism and terrorism that has resulted in killings and violence in France.

The women wearing burkinis do not have a choice about their beach wear. It's not like they can go in a bikini on a hotter day. They would probably suffer violence at the hands of their men back home.

So to frame this as the French restricting their right to wear what they please is disingenuous. It is their Islamic tradition that is restricting the rights of these women. Not the French.

These people are in turn using French liberal attitudes to challenge and subvert that very liberalism. In that, it is also an insidious and sly attack. It is basically asserting that secular liberalism is not and should not be the only value system of France. It should allow women's oppression it says, if it is part of a religious belief system. By extension, they could ask for the legitimization of stoning these women for adultery for instance.

The French have every right to ban this if they wish to remain a liberal secular country. The garment is the symbol of a belief system among a certain section of society that is oppressive is demonstrably engendering violence in France. This section is claiming rights for a minority based on French liberal attitudes. It will not in turn extend these rights to those they have power over, whether women or gays or whatever.

Look at it this way.

The Burkini is incendiary like the confederate flag is in the US. Yeah yeah it's just a piece of cloth, it's just a piece of history, it just symbolizes southern identity. Yeah right. We all know those who fly it do not fly it for these reasons. We know only racists and white supramacists fly this flag.

So, the Burkini.

Liberals should support the rights of women. Not the symbol of women's oppression even if women wear it. Don't be conned. See the larger game.

'After the murders and massacres in France one would have thought a sensible muslim female would not up the ante by wearing a garb that is deliberately and provocatively pushing the political envelope.

This provocative clothing promotes segregation and inter-community suspicion and mistrust in France.

This seemingly-frivolous issue needs to be nipped in the bud because the Muslim populations of Europe are approximately doubling every 10 years. These clashes of cultures will only increase in frequency and importance.

Wishful thinking, tolerance and kindness will not save Europe from the inevitable massacres to come.'

Well then, round all of them up and send them back to the middle east. Whether they were born in the west or not. Deport them.

Better charter a plane. Here's a few names you might be familiar with. Not sure where you would deport them to, though.

Shaquille O'Neal
Janet & Jermaine Jackson
Dave Chappelle
Ice Cube
Mike Tyson
Ellen Burstyn
Iman
Cat Stevens
Snoop Dogg

Post 71 is too difficult to argue against ?

Your post and jbrown are sort of indirect response to post 71 ....

I find it amusing. The burqa his nothing to do with Islam, but is supposed to be a symbol of submissiveness to their man and hide them from other men's prying eyes. Yet I've seen many western muslim women wear high heels and trowel on the make-up like a $5 hooker. So hypocritical. But still, they should be able to wear what ever they want and face any repercussions, just like anyone else.
