What will today's teens and twenty-somethings look back on with nostalgia when they're decrepit 30-year-olds? (Of course nostalgia won't be like it used to be.)

My almost 30 YO son has fond memories of Leonardo, Rafael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Master Shredder - especially the pizza thrower we bought for him - and, hell no, we didn't return it when it was recalled - we knew damn good and well why it was recalled.

Then there's Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon/Digimon, and Transformers.

Neil,
I am afeared today's not yet 30 YO's won't know that sound from anything but "War Games" or "You've Got Mail".
They grew up with higher speed broad band and dsl, not dial-up.

Do you remember when kids used to walk around singing the Oscar Mayer jingle?

Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener.
That is what I'd truly like to be.
For if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
Everyone would be in love with me.

GRAFFITI that I saw on a school desk at the University of Michigan in 1968. During a down time in the semester when I happened not to be very busy during a particular week, I spent a couple evenings going through the empty classrooms and reading the graffiti written or scratched into the desks. I have a whole notebook of that stuff somewhere...but this was a gem:

Oh I'd hate to be an Oscar-Meyer weiner,
That is what I'd truly hate to be,
For if I were an Oscar-Meyer weiner,
Soon there would be nothing left of me.

Frank,
That was the little girl's retort on the commercial - when she met up with the "opposition" and changed her tune.
I can see the ads.

We actually saw a Weinermobile and got weiner whistles on my son's first camporee - it was an international one - just over the border in Niagara, Ontario, Canada, before we needed passports.

Damn. It seems like yesterday to me.

The videos aren't showing up. Anyone else have this problem? (I just updated Firefox yesterday because my old version wasn't compatible with Yahoo anymore.)

Never mind. Fixed it. The new version of AdBlock Plus I installed was blocking them.

Hoisted on your own Petard, eh? ;)

If we're doing commercials - especially of that genre, we need to remember Speedy.

And, who can forget Hertz, putting YOU in the driver's seat?

Then there's #2's ad campaign that was in response to the above.

Then, as opposed to Where's the Beef a la Wendy's, the BIG burger that started it all.

I've disabled AdBlock entirely. Either FireFox isn't compatible with it or it isn't compatible with FireFox. Enabled, it wouldn't even allow me to access my Yahoo Mail. I had to disable it on every page I visited.

Things have changed, and not for the better.

Try re booting your p.c., it might help.

I remember when rock was young.
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own.

Neil,
It may be from the recent Windows upgrades.
After they upgrade, everyone else rushes to get their software up to snuff.
It will likely be better in a few days.

FF used to disable stuff that was no longer compatible automatically.
The reactivate as they got up to teh enw versions.

I tried adblock at one point, but I think I turned it off - doesn't the Symantec have some of that built in, too?

I can remember when TV shows were live and not prerecorded. The commercials were live too and usually the star from the show would give a spiel for the product and sometimes demonstrate it and sometimes mess up.

I did. Many times. It didn't help. It was so bad, some pages would load very basically. (Wiki loaded plain black text on white.) I couldn't even use my Email. I could disable individual pages, but I would have had to disable each one at a time. Easier just to disable AdBlock entirely.
