do you think there will be a draft

do you have a source for these facts?

where is this legislation that has been written and where is the agenda for a committee that it is on?

See my link in post #2.

During that interview, I think it was on This Week With George Stephanopolis sometime during the second or third week in December 2006, Rangal said that he was going to file it as a bill.

I haven't researched his website to see if he actually has, but I guess I could.

Either way meinbruder says it will pass if it is filed, and I say it probably won't get out of committee. If in fact it ever makes to committee.

It is however a fact that Charlie Rangal has been trying since at least 2003 to pass such a measure. Once again see my link in post #2 of this thread.

Whether or not there's a draft has nothing at all to do with Rangel.

It has everything to do with BushRepublican neocons who thirst for war. And yet never want to go themselves.

If Bush gets his surge of 20,000 troops, where are they going to come from? Or how big will Bush's next surge be? How many incentives can the military offer? How many rules can they bend to recruit soliders who are less desirable? And how long are we going to accept Bush sending our National Guard overseas to fight somebody else's civil war? As it is, the military is sending recruitment letters to our soldiers who've already been killed in combat!

Why would I bother to post another citation for you to ignore? I can post opinions all day long just like you! **Deleted by SteveNavy2003**

what has he ACTUALLY DONE and what has the rest of the congress done to support his move?

someone has made the outlandish claim that the democrats are going to actually start a draft and that it will be a warmongering effort

these are not small claims and someone needs to either post any real actions being taken or lose every semblance of credibility they have.

this is not a playground for conservative opinions

that is what the rush limbaugh show is for

we talk about real facts here or we claim the statement as an opinion

rangel is NOT the entire congress or the ENTIRE democratic party

i am disapointed that you would support such specious claims, Centex.

How many people on this thread have studied military history, or have served? I’ve noticed a few men who claim service and I thank them for it. Rangel has stated a desire to emplace a draft for EVERYONE up to the age of 42; oddly enough the framers of the Constitution had a cut of age of 45. As Jefferson put it "Militia duty becoming burthensome it is our duty to divide it as equally as we can." --Thomas Jefferson to James Innes, 1781. Papers 4:686” so passing a draft is a very progressive idea.

Rangel may be a loose canon but he is very much on the lunatic left of the Democrat party, what could be more democratic than a universal draft. While the big strong guys go off to fight the bad guys, the underweight geeks and dweebs like me get to stay home and empty the waste baskets of the great military machine. The dweebs get to labor in the factories and ultimately defend the shores of the country after all the big strong guys are used up “over there”, where ever that is. Rangel is the ultimate progressive and he intends to make everyone follow his leader if he can.

One of the myths of American history is that the sitting President at the start of all major wars in which this country (the USA) has become embroiled has been a democrat. No, I won’t post a source or citation; Google or Dogpile it yourself. This is the fable that made me vote republican for the first few elections of my youth. Then I noticed that history books didn’t tell the entire truth and started looking deeper into the past. Anyone can do it.

All wars, even this one, are the result of decades of mismanaged foreign policy.
While the USA holds it’s elections and replaces its government every four or eight years the rest of the world has been spinning in the background and moving to its own agenda. Bush and the NeoCons didn’t do anything to cause the current situation, they followed Clinton and his inept advisors who thought they would best Bush the First. Roosevelt was in office and could be argued as having started the Pacific War. Truman could have escalated Korea but at the least gave Eisenhower the task of defusing the Cold War. Kennedy nearly started WWIII just to prove a Democrat could be tough and Johnson pushed Vietnam to its limit. Look up Project 100,000 for an alarming precedent.

Nixon, Ford, Carter! One crook and two honorable men, right? Take a look at their executive orders and judge for yourself. Then Bush/ Clinton/ Bush. It’s all about the evil- doers people, and Shrub didn’t start that franchise.

Take a long hard look at Centex’s hot link; a lot of you guys are looking at the future.
Remember, vote democrat!

Okay here's H.R. 4752[109]: Universal National Service Act of 2006

Which he introduced during the 109th Congress.

This from his press release dated November 21, 2006 (This would be a few weeks after the Dems won Congress back for the first time in 12 years) posted in and link to my post #2 of this very thread:

That is why I intend to reintroduce legislation to reinstate the military draft, making men and women up to age 42 eligible for service, with no exemptions beyond health or reasons of conscience. I believe it is immoral for those who insist on continuing the conflict in Iraq, and placing war on the table in Iran and North Korea to do so only at the risk of other people's children.

That would be Charles (aka Charlie) Rangal, DEMOCRAT New York.

Here's the link once again: http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/ny15_rangel/PR112006.html

I believe that Speaker Pelosi just gaveled the 110th Congress in a couple of days ago, it takes some time to file legislation!

someone has made the outlandish claim that the democrats are going to actually start a draft and that it will be a warmongering effort

these are not small claims and someone needs to either post any real actions being taken or lose every semblance of credibility they have.

I don't know how things can be made any more clear than they've already been made right here in this post.

this is not a playground for conservative opinions

True, and likewise it's not a playground for liberal opinions.

A place for debate and dialogue, where we quote our sources, and link to sites where we're getting our information sure, but other than that we all know what they say about "opinions." ;)

that is what the rush limbaugh show is for

I prefer that we stick to the facts.

I'm supporting nothing good sir, just sharing what I know from what I've heard, and sourcing back to the person/persons of authority who've made such claims.

(*8*)

sir

you have not shown any legislation filed anywhere to reinstate the draft

that would be because none exists

rangel is not the democratic party

he is one person

if he makes any attempts they will not be supported

we all know that

I don't know where you're getting your getting your information.

True there isn't any legislation that has been filed in the 110th Congress by anyone that I can find.

I never said that there was.

I was merely sharing with everyone that Congressman Charlie Rangal D-NY, had indicated that he intends to file legislation. Based upon press releases obtained from the Congressman's website! #-o

Having myself served in the Democratic Party for the better part of my adult life, I have a pretty good idea who and what the Democratic Party is.

The last time that I checked the topic of this thread is:

i hope there isn't one, there is no use for one!

Then I shared that Congressman Rangal intends to introduce legislation in the 110th Congress to make it so.

Like you I have heard that it doesn't stand an ice-cubes chance in hell of passing.

Others here have indicated that they disagree.

Please give it a rest or cite sources backing up your claim, becuase I sir don't recall making any claims that we would indeed have a draft.

I could argue this from any position you want.

My position is is that I support some form of "Selective Service." I do not support a Draft.

Either way the point is moot in my opinion, because politically I think that either Rangal is trying to make a point or now that he's Chair of a Committee he knows it won't pass.
