You're right. At no point in the movie did she look like that.

Re: Does Anyone Else Find This DVD Cover Ridiculou

I watched the movie on TV a few weeks ago (what!, I was curious, and then Kevin Zegers won't stop appearing strutting his young, lean and smooth alley trash body bare naked in full back and frontal, and I couldn't stop watching even if he is not really my type and seriously doubt would ever agree to fuck someone like him- I remember finding him cute in Time Share and rather hot in a kinky way in Wrong Turn, but that's about all...) and it was made so that Felicity would display her talents and get duly appraisal for them.
If you do not have a fetish for anything related to Mrs. Hoffman, or for young whores who look like Zegers, or you do not have any interest in transexuality, discussing about that film is pointless.

Buying that movie is like buying some recital DVD of a particular artist, so the cover is rather appropriate.

Re: Does Anyone Else Find This DVD Cover Ridiculou

^Huh? Your post makes no sense to me. I thought it was a great, hilarious and touching film, about outisders and the bond between mother (or father) and son.

My problem with the cover is that nowhere in the film does she appear like that. I've never seen a film cover where they use a picture of the actor where they look like themselves, not the character. A completely separate picture that has nothing to do with the movie. I guess they thought it'd be difficult to sell the DVD with a transgendered woman on the front, so they put that there.

I dunno, I just find it annoying.

The film was annoying, schmaltzy and conventional (oh no, wait, it dealt with transexuality, it couldn't be that conventional  ). Felicity Huffman has talent, is very professional in his job (like Fionnula Flanagan) which is the least you can demand from anyone doing any sort of job but is not that easy to find: take DH as an example, where only two leading actresses are real actresses and the other are very professional bimbo-entertainers, good at their jobs, but wrongly considered as "actresses"... As for Zegers, he still was pretty enough to pass for a sexy young piece of eye candy.

Apart from that, the film is blah.

BTW, does anybody else share the impression that Teri Hatcher, with all those surgical jobs, hyper-heavy make-up and low-carb/fat diets looks more tranny than Felicity? I recall seeing the cover of the second or third season DVD pack of DH at my brother's and Teri's face looked sharper and more masculine than any other face in the group, Felicity included. Which is funny because if there is a proper place to smooth things over it's precisely in a promotional picture, proof at the beginning of this thread.

Re: Does Anyone Else Find This DVD Cover Ridiculou

I agree it is a "great" film provided we agree "great" doesn't really imply much depth and significance.

Well you're entitled to your opinion, I strongly disagree with it. Both in terms of Transamerica, and the actresses on Desperate Housewives.

Not everyone agrees with you. It's okay. Back away from the computer. Breathe.

Re: Does Anyone Else Find This DVD Cover Ridiculou

The Bruntette cover is the only one here, it's the one I've got.

Re: Does Anyone Else Find This DVD Cover Ridiculou

I thought that was the best thing about it--the only other films I've seen about transgendered people are always dark and depressing. It was nice to see one with a sense of humor.

Though it seems like the Golden Globes categorized it as a drama just because of the subject matter.

Re: Does Anyone Else Find This DVD Cover Ridiculou

When I brought that movie I thought it was one of the worst DVD covers I've ever seen.

Re: Does Anyone Else Find This DVD Cover Ridiculou

Perhaps it's more appealing to people to get them to see the movie.

It gets across a great message so maybe more of the straight conservative population will be attracted to the movie but at the same time be enlightened by its message.

Meh...it's a bit of homophobic IMO. Ok, not really homophobic but has a bit of a prejudice vibe to it.

It's not exactly that, I think. Rather than the American usually prefer to minimize some issues to make them more amiable; they would skim instead of dive and that's why their stories may seem rather shallow and silly to other people who don't feel the same need to take refuge in sentimental comfort and, on the other hand and as a consequence, they fail to explain and try to make understand the issue at hand to people who think they hold the whole truth about everything and who, even though would never accept any other point of view or reality contrary to their convictions, should at least be forced to deal with more complex reasoning and arguments if they want to make the opposite party respect their values, their "truths".

Yes, I agree with that and am aware of that. But still, minimizing something in order to make it more amiable reveals some sort of prejudice 'cause if they didn't have prejudice towards those issues there wouldn't be a need to minimize them. That's what I was trying to say. But I see where you're coming from and agree.
