depends on what it is really, like if I go out to a restaurant and I get something like chicken tenders and fries I always say no to the ranch, mayo, or honey mustard. If I get the pate and it came with it and its on the plate I will not eat anything from it (if its in a closed container thats ok though)

It's all going to end up in the stomach any way, so no it doesn't bother me at all.

Mind boggling, some of these things.

How do you guys cope with a sandwich - all that bread, butter and filling touching each other already? Or something like salad or stir-fry, when it is already all mixed together? And pizza - how do you manage that? And almost all Mexican cuisine? Sushi?

Don't be silly; salad sucks, Mexican food is nachos, sushi is an acquired tasting tire, and I eat pb&j by taking a bite of bread, a spoonful of jelly and a knife lick of peanut butter, that way my bread doesn't get all soggy, sticky and gross. :p

Usually it is either Japanese people or OCD people who don't like their food touching or mixing. For me, I have to mix it together, otherwise I'll end up finishing the rice last, without anything left to accompany it

If the foods are on the solid type like rice, corn, beans, chicken all in one plate, I don't care if they touch. But I don't like liquidy foods like sauces or gravy mixing on a same plate with other foods.

I have to have my chocolate cake like this.

Brilliant.

However, if it's something like bread, and it mixes in with a liquid that isn't gravy or tomato sauce, and becomes soggy, I will not eat it. I hate soggy bread on all accounts.

Oh god, i'm the same...soggy bread freaks me out. Even the thought of it...and the disgusting texture makes me shiver inside. I remember back in school hearing a horrible story of bullying.......these guys pissed on a slice of bread and forced another guy to eat it. Who knows if it was true but it still makes me nauseous!

Nope, I love mixing things

If the foods should not be touching why are they on the same plate?

Listen God invented the salad fork so we wouldn't even have to use the same cutlery, never mind the same plate. Bun goes on the bread plate. Salad goes on the salad plate. Oysters go on the oyster plate. Soup in its own bowl. Main course; new plate. Then dessert plates. Oh, and don't forget the nut plate.

Now mixing them doesn't bother me depending on what it is, such as I put ketchup on my hash browns but wouldn't want to get it on my eggs or meat!!! Now I have a weird food quirk i almost always eat one thing at a time say eat the chicken , then the mashed potatoes, then the corn, my family thinks it quite strange!!!

I don't want the pickled beets mixing with the mashed potatoes, or the fried chicken to get soggy from other "juices". In general, I'm not that fussy.

I do that too & have always considered it just the normal way to eat

I do that as well with certain meals.

I don't care for my food touching, but it doesn't bother me to the point where I can't eat it...I just find it more aesthetically pleasing when they aren't touching.

No. But I do think the stacked ("architectural") food phase is stupid and is way past its pull date. A number of years ago I was at a highly regarded restaurant in the Napa Valley, the French Laundry: at the time the stacks there were veritable skyscrapers. Of course the moment you cut into them they collapsed. Beyond ridiculous. The whole scene--with people talking in hushed tones about its celebrity chef--was ripe for satire.
