My teens were the 60's, with all the turmoil of the Civil Rights Movement! My Junior yr in High School, the school was, maybe, 10% "Black". My Senior yr High School (different town) was 65% "Black". (I'm a little, 5'6", "White" Guy.)
The impressions of "Race", during my "formative" years, were not exactly "all inclusive". But ... through experience ... and the willingness to accept people for "Who" they are, as opposed to "What" they are, gave me the opportunity to "move beyond" what I had been taught to expect.
Now? The "Color" of someone's Heart is far more important than the Pigment of their Skin!
Took me a while to learn that, though!

These days you prefer "color" - you now have a preference. So race/color matters to you.
If must agree that the pathetic things that occurs in life in this day and age, phenotypes (skin color or pigmentations) still matters. I guess some people just have to learn the hard way that having a prejustice or preference (whatever you want to call it) towards minorities and being homosexual or bisexual is just ironic. I want I find even more ironic is 60% of those same people are the ones 1-2 decades later unpartnered well beyond age 35 then change their tune. Interestingly, I'm one of the main people that some of those very guys always seems to hit on and confide in saying that "when I was younger I wouldn't have gave a black guy a chance".

I have read what everyone has put down but is it really about changing? Is it wrong to have a preference? I am attracted to a certain type of man. If he is only white should I be put down? I am open minded to everything and everyone but I know where my bread is buttered. I love woman but don't want one. I could never change that. Is that so different? Someone wrote it's 2007 above. Yes it is but I still can't get married. We are still gay bashed in the streets and killed. That is a bigger problem than me liking white guys. I think we are all wired a certain way. Why am I a racist when I have love for everyone but have a certain look in mind for what I am sexually attracted to? I don't think it's wrong and it's not always a choice. Guys out there are bear lovers or twink lovers and never cross those lines. They know what they like. Should they force something else? I always found how we are wired to attraction very interesting.

I'm not calling anyone out, but correlating being a "bear" or "twink" to a skin color/complexion is not exactly the best example of a comparison. As being a "bear" or "twink" are body types that can be changed. However, you can't change your phenotype is a genetic marker of your DNA.

Being truly open minded about race means that you don't see the person for their skin color but for their personality. This problem seems to be just a prevalent in among st homosexual/bisexual men as it is with heterosexuals. Most don't understand the detrimental psychological side effects that having another person always telling them "they aren't good enough because they aren't a certain race" can be long term especially to the younger members of the gay/bi fold. It shows that prejudice still exist because it is "prejudging" someone regardless if it involves sex or not.

You missed the point, IMO, people have certain turn-ons when it comes to sex/attraction. Skin color is part of the mix as is body size. 'We' have become so PC we cant even have an honest convo -- Just in my OPINION of course.

I do not limit myself in terms of race/color/ethnicity or w/e you want to call it. However, there has to be that personality and physical attraction to each other or it just doesn't happen. With me, it much more of personality thing then anything else.
Just remember that we all have our preferences (and limits) when it comes to guys and we have to respect that with each other. We can't force someone to like/love us (as much as we may want them to).

Yes, it is 2007. We as gay men rightfully expect equal rights but before we can expect the greater population to do so, we need to get our house in order.
2007, we need to drop all these racial ideals because it's that type of poisonous thinking that kills gays/bisexuals and creates homosexual self loathing politicians that create laws that deny us rights.
It's all fine and dandy if you don't care about what "they" think. I do. Because it is they that will eventually vote to give gays rights and equal treatment.
It's all in their hands and our position is weakened when there is this type of racial fracturing and close minded bigotry in our small community.

As I've said before, I grew up in a "different" Time, than Now!, and have experienced some major "Life Changing" social developments. Not just the Gay "thing", but, also, the Racial "thing"! LIFE moves in many Interesting, and sometimes, Strange, ways!
But, I HOPE that I've Learned! And the most important Lesson has been the willingness, and, subsequent JOY, of appreciating Diversity! Every, single, HUMAN, has so many interesting, worthwhile, aspects! EACH is a "work" unto Themselves! (And physical Beauty is just the surface!)
Does race/ethnicity, and I'll add "Culture", matter? Of course it does! But, only in the sense of what amazing things it can bring in "Our" differences, and the Variety that "It" (whatever "It" is!), presents in "Our" Lives!

I've been rejected by guys of all races. Let's take into example this Asian guy I was chatting with once. Keep in mind this was after we had been chatting for a while and he was liking me...personality wise. [/B]

I think your location has a huge impact on what you like. For me in the south, there are mostly Hispanic or White guys, I never really was around any black people growing up so as a result I was usually attracted to Hispanic or White guys. But damn, going out clubbing and being around all kinds of people I have become attracted to Black guys just as much as anyone else now....
Its a whole package deal. If a race makes you exclude contact with someone then yeah I think you have problems, especially if you only don't talk to them because they aren't your "sexual type." Then not only are you only seeking sex, then you are blowing off people who could just be a friend. I don't know if that makes sense.
Basically, you like people based on a mixture of things, as many have said, yeah they have a preference but some even said the person they're with now, is not what they would have necesarily prefered. So it speaks tons for their character that they ended up with someone who yeah they initially wouldn't have been attracted to. the point being that they took time to get to know the PERSON and not the outside.

No offense to anyone on this board but race does matter....(not to me anyways) But to the gay community. Almost about 75% of them only care about race. They only befriend those who are attracted them. Preference is all they care about. Makes me think that the gay world is only filled with sexual desires. (I am not saying all of them are like that.)

Marc I have to say thats pretty fuck up I say my friend....If he thought you were a cute black guy...WHAT WAS STOPPING HIM? This whole "preference " thing confuses the hell out me. For on thing it can a Prejudice issue, a racist issue or none of the two. Because there can be guys that are only into Asians just because they "are". Meaning that they can't explain why they are attracted to Asians, they just are. Just like with some gay guys don't know why they are attracted to men, they just are.
Heres the racist issue of it: Guys who aren't attracted to a race because of their racial features and cultural backgrounds are racist. Their are alot of guys who are like that (not saying names...) Not liking Asians because (stereotypically saying) having small dicks, weird shape eyes, etc. Not liking whites because their skin looks milky and makes you want to throw up etc. Not liking blacks because thier skin looks gross and their assholes look like roost beef etc. Not liking Latino's because they look dirty etc. Thats racist reasons. (of course right?) There are gay guys out there that don't even want to associate themselves with guys who aren't their types.
Although I do have preferences myself, it is a form of prejudice.
Can a person fall in love with a man that does not fit his type? If that is true...then why should there be a need of preferences? Which means they only like the person for the attraction they have for them. Not because of the personality. Their can be a guy not of this guys preference but have the personality the guys likes. Will this make the guy fall for the guy who is not his type but because of his personality instead?

Honestly, I hate it when people make statements such as this as it is a broad generalization. Maybe the people you know do not discriminate or maybe you cannot see the discrimination; however, there is still discrimination in this country.
