Dr.Death-Jack Kevorkian dies at 83 years old

IMO, I saw nothing wrong with what he did.
If people don't wish to die slowly and painfully from a lingering disease and want to die quickly and with a lot less pain, they should have the right to.

Natural causes, I'll assume?

Only 83? He looked 83 a decade ago. I hope someone takes up his charge.

I already have my "little vial" ready in case something happens - my dad, too, with instructions that should either of us be unable to take said vial, the other will take care of it.

Though, I think Dad may use it before it's needed - you'd have to meet me mum to understand.

I hate that Dr death crap

he helped people when everyone else consigned them to physical agony and psychological torment

a good man

I agree..People will ''put down'' an animal to end it's suffering because it's the ''humane'' thing to do..

Yet,they'd insist a person suffering in agony from an uncurable disease stick it out till the last excruciating moment.I guess they figure people don't deserve the humane treatment they'd give a dog.

I wish more states would adopt the assisted suicide/euthanasia approach to end of life care..

For Christmas one year, my office gave me Dr. Jack Kevorkian Gift Certificates.

Now, I'll never have a chance to use them.

[^ Knucklehead] Agreed! Entirely. A person should be able to make such a final decision, if the need arises. Only two U. S. states in the far Northwest recognize this final dignity, and it is in fact one of the lesser (among many) reasons that I am at least hoping I may be able to live there sometime in the future.

In the other 48 states where this is not legal, it cannot be said that people are legally in control of their own bodies.

The guy was a jerk and a murderer. He should have died in prison.

Death is not natural. PM me and I'll explain.

Having your lawyer at your side when you pass ... priceless.

I have always felt that if one's mental health is uncompromised and there is sound reason for wishing to depart life (eg, terminally ill and in considerable pain or in a situation with extremely low quality of life) that one should be able to make the decision oneself - and be assisted if needs be.

Some will not agree - but to me that is just humane.

It's also against the law to commit suicide.

The only thing I've seen it do is hurt families, spouses, and friends who have to live with the pain for the rest of their lives.

How is it different?

Grandpa dies a long terrible death to cancer = hurt families, spouses, friends who have to live with the pain.

Grandpa decides, fuck it all. I'm not going to suffer through all that = hurt families, spouses, friends who have to live with the pain.

You've evidently never experienced a person close to you suffering from a terminal illness. I bet you that the majority of Kevorkian's clients' families were relieved that he helped their family member find the peace they desperately wanted. If the family was in pain, it is only because they had to watch their loved one suffer for so long.

According to Wikipedia's entry on EUTHANASIA, the process ~IS LEGAL~ in the following states:
OREGON, WASHINGTON and MONTANA.
The state of CALIFORNIA is moving towards the legalization of it.
And that appears to be it, for the present.
Just some F.Y.I. for ya ( and the fact that I was curious, myself, and just didn't know, either,..)

Let me just say from briefly working in hospice, the quality of life for many people was a living hell.
The idea that it's a good thing to let them continue to suffer in agony is absurd to me.
If they wish to end their suffering, they should be allowed to.

To Jack Springer: I would have answered your post - but fortunately I now have no need to do so - as others have done so rather eloquently.

I would however request that you review your opinion to include some degree of compassion and commonsense.

Thank God he's dead. Bitch was stealing my business. I was willing to do the same thing at half the price. Sure I didn't have fancy schancy injections to give but getting hit hard and repeatedly by a blunt object is still a peaceful to go. And cheap.

Since he is dead, I wonder if there will be a proper replacement. I am not sure about administrating euthanasia... I still cannot bring myself to end someone's life no matter how much he or she is suffering. Dr. Death, either he had mature balls of pure steel or we might have just let one homicidal killer die without proper jail term.

People always say that if you are of unsound mind, then you can't make a decision on euthanasia. But aren't we creating a paradox here? Certain conditions of having an unsound mind can cause great illnesses, put the sufferer through unimaginable pain and diminish his or her quality of life. Who are we to say that they can't end themselves?

IMO, wanting to die is just a complete u-turn from our immensely strong instinct to survive.
