Maybe I ought to keep this to myself, but, I have 30 first cousins and just about all of them are all over our face book pages crying about the horror of this idiot being dropped from A&E. This is what I have to live with. However I put that pic of him and said he hates to be called a bigot.

I've noticed when one right wing extremist makes a hateful, racist or homophobic statement and gets in trouble for it, it attracts the other right wing kooks who exploit it for it's political and monetary value. They scramble to defend the bigot meaning they're a bigot themselves. Think of someone dropping a pile of shit and the flies it attracts.

As usual, the country's biggest publicity whore (who's peddling another book with her name on the cover) elbows her way in front of the cameras. She'll be there the next time someone gets in trouble for making homophobic comments, exploiting it until the cameras go away. It's like clockwork.
 
I don't think they can just up and move their w/o A&E's consent and trust me if they can't make money on their moving, they will just sit on their show. I guaranteed they are tied up contractually so the show can't be shown elsewhere w/o A&E getting a cut. I don't believe for one sec they didn't know his views ahead of time, they just saw an opportunity to make some big money and they took it. I think I read the Pres at A&E felt he crossed the line when he compared homosexuality to bestiality. Now the Naacp has go on his case for what he said about Blacks so this won't blow over so easily.

Phil Robertson has no one to blame but himself, and as it's come out he has said even more incendiary things. When the Dixie Chicks ripped President Bush some years back among other things saying they were ashamed he was our President, I was critical they didn't say it here at home but certainly respected their right to free speech and in many ways understood way they came from. I absolutely didn't want to see their careers killed as a country oriented group. Yet the far right that screams about Phil Robertson's free speech rights being violated were in bloodlust to boycott and destroy the Dixie Chicks.

When JC Penney hired openly lesbian Ellen de Generes as their celebrity spokesperson last year a group associated with the ultraconservative American Family Council, the so-called "One Million Moms" made it their business to call for a nationwide boycott of JC Penney unless they dropped Ellen, who they claimed didn't represent mainstream family values as an out lesbian. Where was the right defending free expression in those cases... I'm sure we could speak of a litany of circumstances where the right didn't give a rat's ass about free expression but clamping down on others expressing their views... or just being who they honestly are.

This whole Duck Dynasty free speech malarkey quacks me up, immensely!

Gov. Jindal is now shamelessly courting "aggrieved" evangelicals and the right wing full court press against anyone who dares disagree with their worldview among nearly all the prospective 2016 Republican nominees for President is on. I may not share some of the views of those consistently on the left here, but the Republican Party of Bobby Jindal and his ilk is not one I could support. Jindal speaks out of both sides of his constantly self aggrandizing mouth.. in one breath saying the Republicans should stop being the "stupid" party and blatantly divisive, yet showing where he is casting his lot with, the hard line evangelical right.

The Republican Party is destroying itself, and has its current base to blame and those who either through cowardice, for malevolent Machiavellian purposes, or actually being ignorant enough to believe the stuff who aspire to lead it cowtowing to the hard right base. If this is all they can be anymore.... if not enough of those who honor responsibility, true love of country and service reside in the party anymore to guide its direction than it deserves to go. The party of Lincoln is on life support and may not be salvageable.
 
I remember I would catch my boyfriend watching this shit whilst I was doing the dishes or studying homework or something and I would just think it was some redneck crap.

I was so right. I really won't watch the show now. I'm not white or southern so I couldn't relate to this. But usually people in that area have that mindset.

Yeah he has freedom of speech, and so does A&E. They don't want him part of their franchise.

But A&E should have known better. They are probably gonna get picked up by the history channel or something anyways.

Well for the Republican Party as it stands today, the evangelical right & Wall street/big business are the base. They also write the big checks and turn out their voters consistently, esp. in non-presidential elections when Democrat leaning voters don't bother to vote. So, any Republican running for national office or state office in a "red state" will have to gain favor with that base. Gays/feminists/atheists/Blacks are the "base" for Democrats......most would never vote for the Republican no matter how "gay friendly" they are.

Gov. Jindal is the governor of Louisiana & "Duck Dynasty" is filmed there. Filming that TV show in Louisiana brings jobs and $$$ to Louisiana. Also the show serves as positive publicity to encourage tourism & people to buy the local Louisiana-made products shown on TV. Lastly the show is about a Christian family who become multimillionaires without giving up their traditional family values or Christianity. A lot of viewers - Southern & Midwestern viewers especially - love that, which is why the Robertson family is so popular & why "duck dynasty" is the most watched reality TV show.

Even a Democrat governor of Louisiana would not tell A&E to take their resources, jobs, and $$$ out of Louisiana.
