When you make a post, scroll down a bit below the box you type in. You should see a 'Manage Attachments' button. Click that and you can upload the picture from your desktop and it will post as a thumbnail as seen above.

If you don't see the button but you can see a black bar with 'Additional Options' only, click the arrow at the right of the bar and it will expand the options list and you'll see the button you need.

Note that the image must be within size limits (image and file size limits) as shown when you upload the image. If your image doesn't meet the limits, you will be told that it didn't upload and you must alter the image to get it within the limits.
