Ebola has NOT been confirmed in Atlanta! Two victims are being flown to the containment suites at Emory University; the suites were set up in conjunction with the CDC; there are only 4 such suites in the US. There is no risk to the general population.

What fear mongering has shown up in this thread.

I wouldn't go near a quarantine center. If I wasn't definitely infected, but they put me near people who were by putting us into quarantine together, chances are extremely high I then would be infected. No thanks.

Unless they can guarantee that everyone in quarantine is in fact kept separate from everyone else in quarantine, I'd be absolutely hell-bent on resisting being put in there.

This is true, no guarantee everything spread through body fluids is spread through droplets.

Except that they are not completely sure whether or not Ebola can be spread through coughing or sneezing - there is not enough data yet - whereas we know that HIV cannot.

So I'm not sold on the idea that I shouldn't worry about people with Ebola coughing and sneezing on me, thanks. Certainly it doesn't seem to have been a problem up till now, but without hard evidence I'm not advocating any decrease in precautions.

There would come a point where they would run out of solitary confinement places, probably after about 20 people in the average hospital, I would guess. Once numbers went up, I reckon they'd just put everyone together.

There was a lot of fear mongering before anyone knew the major facts of this case.

A. They are NOT being flown back via a commercial airline, I don't know how that ridiculous rumor started. Our government is stupid, but not THAT stupid.

B. They're being contained in some of the most quarantined, high security isolation units in the country, which makes the chances of the two Americans spreading the disease around Georgia to be nigh-zero.

C. Ebola doesn't spread magically through the air, similar to HIV, it's only spread via bodily waste and fluids.

That being said, I hope the two of them make it. In Africa, the survival rate for Ebola is approx. 10%, here in the states, it rises to nearly 60% in their favor....
