EEEEK!

My friend of 25 years standing brought me his Beswick Horse ornament worth about £175 so I could place it on EBay for him.
I was busy taking photographs of it on the ironing board and the next news it was in pieces. A white wooden frame that I was using to reflect the light had fallen onto it.
What can I do? What can I say? I'm in a bit of a panic at the moment. What would you do?
I've phoned him but he's out.

Here's the before and after photo's:

Alan,

Assuming that you are the absolute gentleman in person that you have always appeared to be on this forum - I would suggest that you just tell him (apologetically) what happened.

If it were me, I would offer to make restitution for the value of the piece - and if your friend (of 25 years standing) is as much a gentleman as yourself, I imagine he would decline the offer.

If not...well maybe he isn't as much of a gentleman as you are yourself? (But I would take that chance).

Thanks TriBi:wave:

In my panic lots of things went through my mind of what to say to him - I was even thinking of blaming the cat!! [-X

Now I've calmed down I am going to tell him exactly what happened and offer to pay for it.
Unfortunately, he's not in at the mo but I'll catch him about 5 pm.

I feel so guilty about it.

I'll let you know the outcome.

Alan

Saved my typing! Thanks TriBi ;)

Hope your friend takes it with best interests Alan.. I've been in that position myself, before. It always seems worse, before anything is said/gets done about it. :-)

Worrying so much about it, just shows how much you care for him, friendship wise..
Hope he understands! ..|

In an ideal world, you would offer to pay for the broken ornament and your friend would decide that it was an accident and not worry about it. If I were the friend, I would appreciate your honesty about the situation above all.

This reminds me of the time I was at a friends house, we were cutting class and we were not supposed to be there. Her mom had lots of religious statues around the house and my friend told me to be very carefull. Her mother was very particular about the placement of her things and would notice if anything was out of place. I tip toed through the house and practicly floated so that I wouldn't touch anything. Anyway I needed to use the restroom. As I entered I noticed a very unique religious statue of the virgin mary sitting on a shelf in the corner of the room. It looked very old and it obviously meant alot to her mom. Well as you can imagine, as I was putting on my jacket, my sleave hit the darn thing. As if in slow motion, the statue teeter tottered back and forth. My blood ran cold as it wobbled to and fro. I tried to reach for it as it slipped through my fingertips and came crashing down, disintigrating into a thousand pieces on the ground. I must have turned a pale yellow and apologized a hundred times. She said it was OK, I felt so bad. Needless to say we never cut class in her house again.

Blueboy.

Aww Alan:kiss: (*8*)
If you have to pay for it, you could always be devilish and still sell it on e-Bay - these fragile ornaments do get broken in the post ;) Send it by insured post and claim from the royal mail

I hope you were able to sort things out with your friend (*8*)

I can stop sweating now.

I've just spoken to my pal. He was ever so understanding about it.
He told me to stop worrying, accidents happen and that he won't lose any sleep over it.

When I offered to pay for it he said "Don't be so silly - we can glue it back together and put it back on the windowsill where it has always been".

Phew! I'm going to sit down now with a glass of lager and a Marlboro Red.
What a day!

Thanks for all the support guys. And Blueboy, I know exactly what you mean about your blood going cold - mine froze for a while I can tell you!

Hey, what a great idea! :spank:

^Glad things worked out. (*8*)

Thanks Gery,
It's amazing how stressful today has been. It was only a small accident really.
If it had been my own ornament I would have cussed a bit and let the matter go. But being someone elses heirloom I trashed made it so much worse.

Oh well, I'll put my feet up!

And allow me to build you a mug o' tea. I are a GOOD tea builder as has been told me by MANY of my friends and family...up to and including some BRITish people I know.

Yes please. You're always ready with a cup of good cheer. (*8*)

Hey, Alan sorry to hear of the scare, and glad you both were gentlemen about it. You both have a great frindship!
