Yes, because it would solve all sorts of problems in society and nudge us toward finding something besides money to base our status on, but

No, because we don't have the technology or energy sources to sustain a society structured that way. Give me an essentially unlimited automated work force for producing those things and an essentially unlimited and essentially free energy supply, and I'll venture to fashion such a society -- oh, and an essentially unlimited and essentially free supply of raw materials, too.

In other words, when we have roboticized labor to manufacture and maintain all the basics, with unlimited fusion power to power them and the economy, and an 'elevator to orbit' for obtaining our raw materials from the entire solar system, we'll have reached a point when we can seriously talk about it.
