What makes you people think that the Center-Right (there is no Left in this country) is afraid of Cain in any way, shape, or form? Cain getting the nomination would be the best late Christmas present the Dems could hope for.

The man is unellectable, not because he's a black conservative, but because he's a complete joke. The man isn't running for President, he's running for a multi-million dollar book tour with a Fox News gig on the side.

Why exactly would it make liberals pee in their pants? I see conservatives say this all the time but I never see an explanation. The only behavior I've done is laugh when I've heard Cain. And let me just say I laughed real hard when I heard his explanation of a downright stupid tax plan. Why do you choose to go on about skin color? What does that have to do with anything?



I don't think so. There is some validity to them, and Cain has offered contradictory statements on them (indicating guilt).

You haven't seen the parade of black "guests" who hop on liberal programs blasting Cain for his "racism doesn't exist" stance

Cain's handling of the matter has been poor - he's more style than substance it appears - but bottom line is this "case" smells bad and the attention it has garnered far exceeds what the normal news cycle would suggest it should

which loves libs and hates conservatives

esp black ones as it offends their sensibilities

There are Black Conservatives who would be very concerning to us liberals. Condi Rice, Colin Powell come to mind. I am sure there are several other experienced, credentialed leaders without negative baggage who fit the bill who would be strong, viable candidates for the Republican nomination. Mr. Cain was never among these, sexual harrassment notwithstanding.

There were 2, then 3 and now 4 women who are known to have complained about his inappropriate sexual behaviors. The latest one is very specific in her accusations. As I stated above, I believe the count of 4 is still the tip of the Cain iceberg.

Someone observed above that this all happened in the late '90's and women were looking for opportunities to jump on the harrassment bandwagon from the Anita Hill experience. That view is as offensive as it is imprecise. Clarence Thomas was confirmed in October of 1991.

Over the past 20 years, the American workplace has changed both culturally and legally. Now the burden of proof is on the accused, and harrassment is based on the perception of the complainant irregardless of the intent of the accused.

That in the late '90's the ARA would elect to settle on at least two of these cases speaks to perceived substance of the accusations. Settlements of this nature were not nearly as common as they are today. Now companies are more inclined to settle rather than risk further action either by the complainant or various government agencies. Often complainants retain their jobs as part of the settlement.

Republican or Democrat, White or Black, it is the nature of powerful men to believe that it is about them. Whether CEO's, Congressmen, Mayors, what have you, they think that women, and/or men are deferential to them for them and not for the power jof their position. Moreover, as people don't question their demands in other areas, the can project this into sexual situations, as well. Eventually, whether their sexual overtures are accepted or not, it unravels and they get caught.

Currently, Americans have no tolerance for sexual harrassment. For better or worse, the burden of proof is on the accused. Mr. Cain has been all over the board with versions of his side of the story. Clinton and Weiner and oh so many others have shown us that not telling the truth makes these situations much worse. It appears that Mr. Cain has not been truthful.

I would vote for Colin Powell in a heartbeat, if he denounces his membership to the GOP and ran as a conservative independent, and I would NOT consider Rice. Its a matter of what they did while in office and their qualifications.

I don't know if I could vote for Powell, it would depend on what he had to say - also with the caveat that I will not vote Republican. One thing I wouldn't do in regards to powell - is call him a crazy fountain of whackitude, which pretty accurately describes Cain.

I don't think people who are insisting that a black conservative is automatically a threat to "liberals," are considering is that if it came down to Obama or Cain the assumption that this would bleed off a ton of black support is valid.

A huge portion of the south is on the right, and black people here and everywhere else know which way the bigot jumped, and it wasn't to the left.

Pretending that there is no racism in the manner of the old school on the right is just burying your head in the sand - I suspect that black people are clearly aware of it.

I wouldn't vote for Condi.

The only big winner is Mitt. Confronted with this scandal and the crazies and screw ups, a Mormon who keeps his pants on and doesn't say stupid shit is lookin so much better.

There are two big winners here, and the BIGGEST winner of the two is flying below the radar. And, no, I don't mean RON PAUL - his views about the Corporatist form of "capitalism" make him a total non-starter with the RNC.

Is anybody noticing the complete absence of NEWT GINGRICH in any of these discussions? I have this sick feeling that he will suddenly come along as the "savior" of the Republican slate. Just wait until around Christmas, or early January...mark my words. He appears to have only a minimal amount of baggage - indeed his serving divorce papers on a wife in hospital for cancer so that he could go off with a babe is SMALL POTATOES compared to the rest of the bunch.
