*sigh* What a mess. I've already set my profile to completely private. Their 'stalker feed', as I call it, was bad enough. Telling me everything everybody does unless they turn alerts off.

Now you can find people through search engines...that is just dangerous.

And besides, what good is it going to serve anyway?

one of the pulls of Facebook was the privacy. Unlike myspace, you didn't just add all these random people, you only added your friends and that was what made Facebook so great. this is just horrible.

I got no problem with it. Suppose its better for friends to be able to find you!

And if you dont like it you can make your self invisible to anyone on the internet!

Why wouldn't you just sign up? Think about it: It only matters when you find them if you are a member. Otherwise you can't contact them. So that is no argument for doing this.

And invisible or not, I don't trust it. With the mini-feed, I turned some of my updates off but it took a while for that to take effect. This could happen exactly the same, making your privacy nonexistant for a while.

One of the best things of facebook was the privacy. No information was known unless you wanted it to be. And it was closed off unless you signed up with valid information. That wall of privacy is rapidly deteriorating, and this search thing is like hitting it with dynamite.

Ever since they let anyone sign up, i have had my privacy level to the highest possible. i hate that it's going this public.

I think it's a good thing. I've been trying to access friend's profiles from college for years, but since i only went to the school for 2 years, i no longer have an email account there, so i could never join the college network. Still can't. Which sucks, because i went there for 2 years and made friends, but i can't be a part of the network b/c my college email address isn't valid any more.

Don't suppose anyone knows how to get around that eh? Or view any profile?

You can't view any profile because of the privacy things. Unless of course someone has it set so that anyone can see it.

I don't have a valid high school address since I graduated, but I'm still in that network. I don't know why it isn't letting you in the network.

If you made friends, just type in their names and find them. That's how I found everyone I looked for on there.

Well see i want to be able to be part of the network and look at peoples profiles, i don't remember everyone's name unfortunately. And i didn't join facebook until after i left that college, so i never signed up as part of the college network. And now that i no longer have my college email, there's no way to join the college network. Unless someone here knows another way?

Can you not join a Network (A school network) by requesting someone who is already apart of thet network to confirm that you went to that school? I know I have had two requests from people to join my school network when they joined and they didn't use their school email address...

I have absolutely no idea... Can you?? How do you do it?

I wouldnt join if I had no friends on it. So basically I tihnk being able to search someone is a good idea.

And if you contact facebook about privacy youd know that the option to have your profile complety private will ALWAYS be there.

And once again you dont have to give your details out!

So they said, but there are things you do on your account that you can't even set to privacy, so I have NO faith in their keeping our privac safe.

And it isn't exactly hard to join. If you find friends, you have to join anyway.

Erm, there is no such thing as privacy on the internet, anywhere, at any time. So whatever gave you that idea was wrong. Whatever you put out about yourself online, no matter where it is, you should ALWAYS assume anyone, anywhere, anytime can see it. That's just the way it really is.

That is the point I've wanted to make. Facebook took steps to keep privacy just that: private. Now they are breaking it themselves. It is turning into myspace, which will likely spell the death of facebook.

In a few weeks, these public search listings can be found by search engines like Google. No privacy rules are changing; anyone who discovers your public search listing must register and log in to contact you via Facebook. Learn More.

That bit thats quoted is on everyones facebook home page if you havnt pressed close!

Its the same as it has been for a long time! Everyone still gets there privacy! I really dont know what anyone else is reading but privacys the same thing as ever.

And in regards to 'its just turning to myspace' Its the same as it has been for along time! With addition to apps. And you dont even have to have them!

I dont know why everyone wants to say facebooks going down hill when if you dont want any change you dont have to have it.

Now if you change your profile settings to private and then you can find yourself on facebook on a search engine then thats something to be bothered about.

I don't suppose anyone has more info on this, like... how to DO IT? :-)

About High Schools....

'High school networks are for current high school students only. Unfortunately, you cannot affiliate with a high school network as an alum.

High school alumni can, however, list the school that they graduated from on their profiles. To edit your profile education information, simply go the the Education tab of the Edit My Profile page. Also, you can search for other people who have listed a specific high school on their profiles by using Classmate Search.'

Now it says if you are a current member you can have another friend to accept you are apart of it, I tihnk thats what the guy might be talking about invitations.

I'm actually talking about college, err University for my UK buds ;)... if you were addressing me...?

Oh yeah privacy is the same.

The feeds that you CAN'T turn off that still post things you do. Even after turning them all off, some people STILL see when I post on someone's wall, join a group, etc. My contact about that was brushed right off and ignored, saying they looked into the issue and that it wasn't an issue, yet there they are.

And Apps are WAY out of control. It is a spiral. I see a good 10-20 added or subtracted every day and obsessive invites for different ones. It's annoying and won't turn off either!

If your friends will tell you your infomations coming up in there news feed then suerly you can ask therm not to send you app invites.

And surely your friends knowing that youve joined a group sint that bad is it??

I just dont see the problem???
