Not really. I've had straight people try to call me a fag as an insult, but I hit them back with words that hurt them WAY more. That was fun.
In the UK it implies you're a cigarette.

I used "fag" just the other day here on JUB. I don't find the word inherently offensive. It carries a nuanced meaning different from "gay" or "queer" or "homosexual." I'd rather my arsenal of vocabulary be fully loaded with choices.
I was called a fag out of hate only once. It was by another staff member at a summer camp I spent 7 summers at. It was the first summer I was out, and he used the word fag in place of my name. A friend of mine immediately jumped to my defense and others fell in line behind her.
I only find words offensive if there is malicious intent in their use. So, by default, no, it doesn't offend me. If someone uses it to insult me or another gay person, then yes, it does.

That about sums it up for me.
Sounds odd really when I analyze it... its like when its a horrible word that straight people use against me all the time but when another gay guy says it then it really doesn't bother me at all.
Not sure what you mean...
But can you name a successful person who was obsessed with what others said and thought about him? There may be a few, but real winners look to themselves, damn others, and charge full steam ahead.

Right now, I hate it. Maybe in the future, I wont be so offended by it. After just recently coming out to everyone, I'm quite sensitive and unsure of how people around me really feel about it, and it gets to me a lot when they use 'faggot' as an insult to each other, because it makes me feel like they look down upon me for being gay.
Just earlier in fact, as I was in the kitchen making coffee; my father was talking about his AFL team and said to my brother (both of whom know that I'm gay),
"I'll bet my team are going to play like a bunch of faggots; just you watch". ---- Yep, cheers dad.
Maybe I'm just struggling a little bit with the transition of suddenly becoming a minority, and it's difficult right now; but like everyone seems to keep saying "it gets better"; I certainly hope so.

As far as I am concerned it is offensive no matter who uses it. When a gay person uses it it only gives permission to others to use it. So if you are offended by it when others say, stop saying it yourself.

I definitely cringe when I hear "fag", and even more so when I hear "faggot". But I am definitely doing better coping with it now, than when I would hear it when I went through a severe case of depression about 3 years ago.
I think there have been far too many good people in this world whose last word they ever heard in this life was the word fag.
It is offensive and I don't like to hear gay men calling each other that. That's my personal opinion.
While not as derogative, I also find the term breeder offensive for heterosexuals. I don't want to be stereotyped by my sexuality, and I believe in treating others in that same way.

Fag doesn't mean Gay and it isn't offensive over here in UK it means a cigarette.
Regardless whether secret or not anybody who thinks gay/bi guys are bad need to grow up as they are probably jealous that you are happy with the way you are. And most homophobic people are single i've realised, so I can laugh

Ya not really. If I know the person who's calling me it their a close friend and we're having a laugh. If I don't there a bigoted prick and I let them know that. I've only ever even had that happen once. He stammered an apology pretty quickly. I guess I just don't take things in life too seriously *shrug*

growing up i was closeted, (and up until very recently for that matter) and nothing was off limits within my group of friends, we'd call each other the n word, the f word, etc. being called, not fag, but faggot, in particular, actually did secretely really hurt whenever a friend would call me that.
i haven't been called it at all since i've came out, and i hope i don't ever get called it by someone who's knowingly targeting my sexuality with it. im not really comfortable defending myself, i'd much rather defend others, and i find that a lot easier to do. just the other day one of my friends used the word faggot, not to me of course, but about someone else, and it wasn't used literally. there was a little bit of a silence there afterwards, but... yeah.
