MY personal fav. film director is Ridley scott...

Alien
Blade Runner
Legend
GI Jane
Gladiator

All such amazing films.. and all in my top 10 movies of all time

Legend is my fav. of all of those it has Tom cruise (yukk), and tim curry in it

Alien is my 2nd fav film

I must say he is a very talented director!

But my guy is Pedro Almodovar, I love the mess he makes with his films. They feel like is more real life than cinema, even when the stories can be so completely off-the-wall!

I like:

Pedro Almodovar
Peter Greenaway
David Lynch
Darren Aranofsky
David Cronenberg
Christopher Nolan
Alfred Hitchcock
Wong Kar-Wai
John Waters
Woody Allen
Todd Solondz
Tim Burton
The Coen Brothers

...and many others that I can't think of right now.

I'd have to say:

- Ridley Scott (Alien, Thelma & Louise, G.I. Jane, Kingdom Of Heaven)
- Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Heavenly Creatures)
- Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, Neverending Story)
- Roland Emmerich (13th Floor, Stargate, Universal Soldier, Independence Day)
- Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, Jurassic Park, Feivel Goes West, Hook, Back To The Future series, Indiana Jones)
- Luc Besson (Fifth Element, Léon)
- George Lucas (Star Wars)
- James Cameron (Aliens, Terminator 1+2, True Lies)

Yes, I like cheesy sci-fi/action-movies... :D

Tim Burton. Can't wait for his film of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd.

Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, Terry Zwigoff, Alexander Payne, Sophia Coppola, Ang Lee, and Christopher Nolan.

Ang Lee, for giving us two gay themed films, and a bunch of award winning films.

Mine..

Stanley Kubric
David Fincher
Ridley Scott
James Cameron (although I dont' like Titanic... go figure)

Spielberg is the greatest film director of all time. To be able to release films as brilliant and different as Jurassic Park and Schindler's List in the same year (1993) or again in 2005 with War of the Worlds and Munich show a filmmaker far ahead of anyone else.

I'm also a fan of both David Fincher and P. T. Anderson, but neither are in the same league as Spielberg.

Alexander Payne and Christopher Nolan's films are always worth looking out for too.

I think my favourite is Claire Denis. Her films are very sexy and mysterious, plus she shows lots of male flesh. You haven't really experienced lust until you've seen Beau Travail. Don't miss this film.

None of the directors listed above are even in the same class as my all-time favorite: the great Ed Wood.

i also like...
James cameron (Titanic, Terminator 1 & 2, Aliens, True lies, Abyss)
Stanley Kubrick(2001: space oddysey, clockwork orange, shining, full metal jacket)
Steven speilberg( Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close encounters, Schindlers list, Raiders of the lost arc)
Spike lee (Do the right thing, Summer of sam, Malcom X)
wes craven (scream, nightmare on elm street,)
John carpenter (Halloween, Thing, CREEPSHOW)

Here's eleven...

Yasujiro Ozu
Satyajit Ray
Mikio Naruse
Robert Bresson
Carl Theodor Dreyer
Abbas Kiarostami
Wong Kar-Wai
Alfred Hitchcock
John Ford
Akira Kurosawa
Jacques Tati

Damn it, Crashdown beat me to mention Luc Besson....

Also, Don Roos does a good job (See "Happy Endings", you'll understand).

David Lynch!!!!
Easily the most underappriciated director in hollywood.
I sooo wish INLAND EMPIRE would've played in my town, I can't wait to see it.
